“This Book is Dedicated to Klonopin”

We Are Never Meeting in Real Life. by Samantha Irby

February 28, 2024 by Tracy Leave a Comment

A whopping 6 years ago, teresaelectro reviewed this book of humor essays, and it’s been on my TBR list since then. I finally got around to it, and Irby had me from the dedication. She covers a variety of topics, but a lot of the focus is on relationships and tracks the progression of her romantic relationships from the gross guys who essentially think she should be grateful to have sex with them, up to her current relationship with her long-term partner. She also speaks […]

A Journey From Lawyer to Redeemed Ghost

Under the Whispering Door by TJ Klune

February 21, 2024 by Tracy Leave a Comment

I’m not sure why I delayed reading this for so long, aside from some preconceived expectations about how the book might end, but I’m glad I finally gave it a shot. Our protagonist, lawyer Wallace Price, is not a very good person. The negative thoughts or stereotypes you may have had about lawyers pretty much apply here. He’s a workaholic who cares about little more than winning cases. When he unexpectedly dies from a heart attack, only 6 people attend his funeral, and that includes […]

A Pair of Romance Reviews

The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory

All the Feels by Olivia Dade

February 13, 2024 by Tracy 1 Comment

The Wedding Date Like many books I’ve been reading lately, especially the romances, I’m pretty sure this came across my radar because of other Cannonballers. It’s the story of Alexa and Drew, who meet in an elevator and have some time to get to know each other when the elevator gets stuck. Drew is in town for his ex’s wedding and doesn’t have a date, and he impulsively asks Alexa to be his date. She agrees. Drew isn’t interested in having a girlfriend, and he […]

A Well-Done Portal Fantasy

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow

January 30, 2024 by Tracy 3 Comments

You all continue to have some of the best recommendations. I don’t know whose review I read that led me to add this to my TBR some time back, but I’m so glad I did. January Scaller is the ward of the wealthy Mr. Locke. Her father spends most of his time traveling as one of Mr. Locke’s employees, and her mother is believed to be dead. It’s a fairly lonely existence for her, especially as a girl of color living in the early 1900s. […]

The Further Chronicles of the Brown Sisters

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

Act Your Age, Eve Brown by Talia Hibbert

January 23, 2024 by Tracy Leave a Comment

A library copy of Take a Hint, Dani Brown finally became available, so I was able to start on the next Brown Sisters book. I enjoyed it, though not as as much as the first one. Dani Brown is a PhD student with no love life, and she’s not looking for one. After some disastrous and very painful relationships, she has decided that she only kind of relationship she is looking for is friends with benefits. Recently that well has been dry, so she prays […]

Toddlers are A--holes: It's not your fault book cover

Fortunately They’re Cute, Too

Toddlers Are A**holes: It's Not Your Fault by Bunmi Laditan

January 18, 2024 by Tracy 1 Comment

This is an easy book to breeze through. Its short length makes it great for  parents of young children. Bunmi Laditan addresses a number of issues than can come up with toddlers, such as  mealtimes, potty training, sleep, “Getting Your Toddler to Listen (LOL),” and the effect being a parent has on one’s sex life. Although Laditan brings up real issues, it’s important to note that this is not a real parenting book, nor is it meant to be. Laditan talks about toddlers and parenting […]
