After Hours at Dooryard Books by Cat Sebastian

January 2, 2026 by narfna 2 Comments

Nothing like starting off the new year with a five star read. I will admit I was hoping for this outcome when I picked it for my first book of the year. Cat Sebastian is increasingly becoming known for atmospheric, historically rich, community-focused, and quietly revolutionary little books. I wanted a lovely time full of lovely people that would take me away to a time in history that reflects pieces of our own Current Times while still being an escape hatch from reality. You don’t […]

Thank you, Kit Moonstar!

December 23, 2025 by narfna 2 Comments

This afternoon I was literally leaving to head into work to finish things up before leaving for the holidays, and USPS pulled up next to my car and hand delivered me a package from my local bookstore, Stacks. I practically squealed, and when I got to work, I tore into that package to find three lovely books, with no note. But some light investigative work told me that Kit Moonstar was the only of my Goodreads friends that had read and loved all three! Also, […]

The Tommyknockers by Stephen King

November 10, 2025 by narfna 2 Comments

According to many Constant Readers, this is Uncle Stevie’s worst book, but I don’t agree! It is extremely flawed, but I also found it very readable (it probably helped that Edward Herrmann narrates the audiobook, and he is a wonderful audiobook narrator). This is sci-fi horror. A woman named Bobbie, a writer of western novels, finds a buried object in the ground and becomes obsessed with unearthing it. Doing so changes her and the town she lives in forever, and in really really creepy ways. […]

No Rest for the Wicked by Rachel Louise Adams

November 6, 2025 by narfna Leave a Comment

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audio ARC. It hasn’t affected the contents of my review. So many thoughts, where to start. How about that cover? I love it, but questionable marketing. Not sure it conveys the tone of the story! Which is not horror, and is not cozy at all. There are definitely legions of cats in the story, but they are in the background. So, I am conflicted. (The town is overrun with stray cats, due to a local commercial series […]

Not Quite Dead Yet by Holly Jackson

September 27, 2025 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was a bit of a disappointment for me, but I still had an overall good time with it. I don’t understand why Holly Jackson keeps writing books about Americans when she is very British. (Nothing of hers has hit for me like A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.) There was also a key moment at the end of the book that was totally dumb and out of character, which I’m deducting 0.25 stars for. But the mystery was very well plotted and intricate, and […]

Firstly, big thanks to vega-table for the heads up that this even exists! I was having trouble finding a book that would work for this BINGO square, and this was just so perfect, because it’s short and easy to read, and it’s about cats. My library system actually has quite a bit of manga in it’s catalog, and that’s how I read most of the manga I have read. Luckily they had this one, too, and it was free! God bless libraries and librarians. Protect […]
