This was not at all what I was expecting. Beard in Mind might be the best book Penny Reid has ever written. The lovely Mrs. Prolixity Julien and I have both put Penny Reid on triple-secret probation for sins against writing, reading and the Romance genre. We are harsh because we love and we want her to do better. Beard in Mind was doing better. A big huge thank you to Mrs. Julien for lending this to me. I will be adding it to my permanent collection. […]
The Traffic is the Least Believable Element
White Hot is the second in the Hidden Legacy series. It was much delayed, and probably better for it. The cover is awful. Ignore the cover. The book is good. The first book, Burn for Me, was good too, but this one is better. After the events of Burn For Me, Nevada Baylor has decided to learn more about magic and her own magical talents. She hasn’t had to worry about romance because Mad Connor Rogan took her at her word and has left her alone. A […]
The Knowledge of Good and Evil is Removable
I’ve been reading this while walking my dog. I enjoyed it, but it didn’t grab me until 67% of the way in. I think I’ve read at least a dozen graphic novels while plodding my way through this. I reached the point where I couldn’t put it down when it shifted from a mystery with no obvious solution to a cat and mouse game between Lord Peter and the murderer. This was the passage that finally grabbed me. There is a game in which one […]
A Lot Did Happen
This was a hmmmm. It was both interesting and irritating. PattyKates vigorously encouraged us to read this so they would have more people to discuss it with, and Katie kindly lent me her copy. I’m glad I read it. It’s better if you don’t know too much going in, so I’ll keep things general. Parker Cruse hasn’t been able to get her life together. She gave up an athletic scholarship to follow her high school boyfriend to college (don’t do that). She thought they were going to […]
What If #BlackLivesMatter Was About a White Girl?
Bendis and Maleev’s Scarlet is about a young woman, named Scarlet Rue, who sees her boyfriend murdered by a corrupt cop, and is herself shot by that cop. She gets out of the hospital intent on revenge. She’s going to take down the cop who murdered her boyfriend and the system that rewards cops for being corrupt. She’s not a masked vigilante, she lets the police and the public know who she is and why she’s killing cops. She becomes a rallying point for people […]
I Like This Book so Much it Made Me Angry
I like this book so much I am actually angry with myself. I’m angry that I didn’t read it years ago. I’m angry that I read it now. I’m angry that Malin is probably going to pass me on the Leaderboard because I liked Attachments so much I’m not going to be able to read other books for a while. I have three other reviews half written and I don’t know if I’m going to be able to finish them because none of them are […]
