Twenties Girl

Twenties Girl by Sophie Kinsella

August 23, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

August 23, 2022 review: I only did this re-read since it fit a bingo book category. I really didn’t like it the first time I read it, and I liked it even less on my second read through as well. I think it just was all over the place and the “romance” was not even central to the story. I just found the main hero to be another blander version of the character of Luke Brandon from the “Shopaholic” series.  Original review: Updated: December 2019: […]

The Day is Dark

The Day is Dark by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

August 23, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I thought “The Day is Dark” was very well done. I honestly didn’t know who did what to whom and I loved the different things that were going on and finding out what happened to each character. And I did love that science in the end is explaining what is happening to some of the people in the village, but the villagers took it as a different thing which played into their own mythos. Thora is feeling bored and gets the opportunity to work with […]

Ashes to Dust

Ashes to Dust by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir

August 23, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

I read Yrsa Sigurdardottir’s “I Remember You” which freaked me out. I went and started to read her mystery series since I heard good things about it. I have read books #1-2 and finished up books #3 and #4 this past weekend. I have to say that the entire mystery (a head/skeleton, and remains of 3 men buried in a village that was abandoned due to a volcano) was well done. I loved how Thora dug in on this and the actual reveal to the […]

Malice House

Malice House by Megan Shepherd

August 16, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

Please note that I received this book via NetGalley. This did not affect my rating or review. Trigger warning: Rape is discussed, but not shown. The only reason why I am giving this two stars is that the stories within the big plot, “Bedtime Stories for Monsters” were fantastic. Frankly if this book had just been the stories from that unpublished manuscript I would have been happy. Because when you jump from those stories to the “plot” my whole head started to hurt. I wanted […]

The Moving Finger

The Moving Finger by Agatha Christie

August 15, 2022 by Classic Leave a Comment

August 15, 2022 update: Honestly this one drags even on a re-read and I knew what was coming. And the main issue with that is that the book does not have Miss Marple come into the story until more than halfway through. And we don’t get to see what she is up to since we just follow the book via Jerry Burton’s point of view. As I said in my original review, I really wish we could have built up Joanna more. She’s a lot […]

The Body in the Library

The Body in the Library by Agatha Christie

August 15, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

Update August 15, 2022: I had to read something that was going to get me out of a reading funk. Two other books I started this last week just put me in a mood. I love a good Miss Marple, and I am trying to get back into the flow of things for an upcoming book bingo that I start yearly from September through Halloween. I always loved the Bantry’s and they appear in the “13 Problems” and Dolly appears in some later books in […]
