These gals ain’t going to have a Harlequin Romance written about them. ‘Cause the clown princess Harley Quinn and that green-thumbed (who knows how to use it) Poison Ivy are anything but a cozy romance love affair.
We start off the collected comics of the Dynamic Duo of Mayhem, Harley Quinn: The Animated Series Volume 1: The Eat. Bang! Kill. Tour (#1-6) by Tee Franklin, Max Sarin (Illustrator) and others, with a car chase out of Gotham. It is a “between the series” moment where Ivy is a runaway (almost) bride, her best gal Harley has destroyed Gotham (we learn this as we go along, or I assume if you’ve watched the late 2000’s animated series) and some grand villains have been locked up. But this is Batman and Arkham is a lousy prison/asylum as everyone always seems to somehow escape, so no worries.
You might disagree with me, but I think anyone who is in a relationship with Harley (as much as I love her) is in a toxic relationship. And Ivy already is pretty toxic herself (more ways than one) so I was never able to “ship” them. Not to say I “shipped” Quinn and Joker, and I didn’t see it but I can’t “ship” anyone who is going to marry a guy named Kite Man (or was it Guy….?) neither. So, anyway the book is about the troubles the gals get into while they are trying to have a honeymoon-not honeymoon-honeymoon. There is language, murder, other kinds of violence, sex (lots of sexy) and one freaky, out of control Commissioner Gordon. And that’s just the first section or two.
This is not the cartoon I watched as a preteen-teen and Adam West would really be out of place. There are several potential trigger situations as I believe the series was rated T (Teen) and I’m thinking at least ages 14 and up as even I was sometimes uncomfortable with what is presented (I really do not like Bud and Lou). You will find people you know and love or know and love to hate. And you will find a few new people, too. The animation is typical comic/cartoon based, with lots of color, busy backdrops and everything perfectly done.
