While I can’t say Game of Pets Book 1: The Boy Who Knew Too Much LEFT our main character hanging off the wheel of the giant monster truck (which he actually was at one point) it does leave you hanging as the cliffhanger ending ends with a police chase and the fate of the world in the hands of a kid, a talking (arm and legless) axolotl, and a crazy pet shop/monster truck owner.
Aaron Blabey, you are one weird person. An AXOLOTL? Pets as Alien Master Minds pawns? And a boy who can’t …well just can’t? And don’t get me started on the Alien Master Minds game to destroy the earth. Because, as StarLord said, “‘Cause I’m one of the idiots who lives in it!” and I really don’t want Earth destroyed.
So, the point of the story is our kiddo is “the chosen one” who will save the Earth from seven master minds of the alien variety who have been playing a game of “Who Can Get the Earthlings to Destroy Their Planet First?” Their avatars, the pets of the world, were sent to earth to convince humans to destroy the planet. So dogs, cats, chickens, snakes, gerbils, hamsters, lizards, you name it, use mind control to do just that. And will stop at nothing to obtain the W. But when an axolotl is paired with a human boy, he learns that he could save the world. But there is a lot stopping him. He’s a kid. He can’t drive. And the other pets, well I said they’ll stop at nothing to stop him.
With off-beat humor and minimalistic illustrations, our hero and pet are off to find a way to save the planet. Or not. I mean, that police chase is how I started this and if that copper gets them, well, the planet isn’t the only thing in trouble.
Due late September 2026, I read via an online reader.
