The only real thing that makes In My Dreams a rating of 4.6 and not a true 5 is the physical size of the actual book. It is a bit too large for my personal comfort. However, the illustrations makeup for that. They are amazing! The colors punch you in the nose! They are minimal so their impact is beyond strong. The story itself is poetic (not poetry in the “stereotypical thought”) and a bit weighty. Take your time and read multiple times.
Effie Lada created something that feels more for the adult reader than the traditional picture book reader or listener crowd. It is a gift book, an art book, and a reading book. There is a lot going on in a deceptively simple look and even feeling. You need to experience each page slowly, and not just physically but emotionally as well. The atmosphere is energetic and calm all at once. Again, do not rush, take your time, read multiple times and just enjoy.
I cannot do this book justice. It’s just a WOW WOW WOW OMG OMG OMG book

I had asked my library to find a copy for me, and it took ages for it to come through, but it was completely worth waiting for. I do not want to return it, so I guess I will have to find a copy for myself!
