In early April 2023 the book birthday of a new Sandra Boynton came to be. It was for the book Woo Hoo! You’re Doing Great! With their usual humorous text and outrageously funny illustrations, the message of “you are okay no matter what happens” is loud and clear, for all the hear comes blasting out of Chickens mouth. And in fact, it is so loud it wakes the bear from their nap. Poor chicken! They made a mistake! How horrible! Or is it? with a little help from a friend, Chicken realizes that we all make mistakes, and we just have to learn from them, but that does not mean we are bad or a horrible person. So, a dash of Chicken’s own advice does wonders.
This book is just in time for graduations. But it works for new jobs, bad days, having issues when starting a new hobby, and almost any time. It works for the child of age and the child of heart. The oversized size allows it to be easily held by the child’s hand, but not so large it will not easily fit on your shelf. You will want to cuddle up and read to your own rambunctious, having troubles, chicken, I mean children.
And of course, if you are a fan of Boynton’s minimalistic are, there is plenty of that here (or not, as the case might be). Why you love them is why you will love Woo Hoo! You’re Doing Great. There are no surprises, but that is what makes it perfect. It is familiar and cozy, while being able to fall in love all over again with Boynton.
