Introduction A long time ago (17 years!) Square Enix got together with Disney to create a game that combined characters from Square’s famous role playing games (Final Fantasy) and characters from classic Disney canon. The aim was to get new audiences for both companies work by connecting them via a story featuring a young protagonist (Sora, aged 14 in the first game and still only just about 16 in the latest) and his adventures. That game was Kingdom Hearts and we’re still here 17 years […]

Finally Fantastic Art

April 3, 2018 by kittenkong42 Leave a Comment

Final Fantasy XV was a video game that was almost a decade in the making. Initially planned by Square as Final Fantasy Versus XIII back in 2007/2008 over time it was adapted and reworked to become the first game in the long running series for the new generation of consoles in 2016. As with any game in this series it had it’s fans and those who hate it because it changed everything again. People should really get to used to that as no two games […]

What is it that you seek?

December 10, 2017 by borisanne Leave a Comment

I totally get it. There has been a lot of hype surrounding Ready Player One, and now that I’ve devoured it, I am here to validate the crap out of that hype. I have so many questions about this book. It checks a lot of boxes for popular YAish fiction: not-very-far-in-the-future dystopia, evil corporation as bad guy, poor underdog from the slums as hero, lots of CGI opportunity in the event of an inevitable film adaptation, action, adventure, adolescent love, pack of unlikely friends surprised […]

So what if you wish a genie to go **** itself?

March 20, 2016 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

Most people know that when you find a genie in a bottle, you’re supposed to get 3 wishes. This premise governs the finale of a book which apparently sparked video game series. I’m not a gamer; I do however read a fair bit of fantasy. The structure of this book is probably its most unique feature. It’s more like a series of interconnected short stories, where one story centers on something that gets revealed in the next story. The stories all feature Geralt of Rivia […]

Boobs: Does Size Really Matter?

May 12, 2015 by CoffeeShopReader 2 Comments

I admit that I picked up this book purely because of the title. I was expecting something a little goofy, and that’s what I got, but not in the way I expected. The action takes place in Orario, an area defined mostly by the existence of The Labrynth, what seems to be a cave of who-knows-how-many-levels filled with monsters. Adventurers come to town to slay the monsters and earn both reputation and money. Also in the case of the hero, Bell Cranell, the admiration of […]
