Front cover of The Heavens by Sandra Newman

Literature will/might/won’t Save the World. Maybe. I’m not sure the book ever told me.

The Heavens by Sandra Newman

January 12, 2026 by matt_thac Leave a Comment

This book takes some really big swings and while it doesn’t miss, it does seemingly bunt the ball. Commenting on the War on Terror & its justifications in the early 2000s – Check. Historical drama featuring Shakespeare – Check. Questioning if Time Travel does actually happen or is just in the mind of the protagonist a la Twelve Monkeys – Check. I could go on. There’s so much happening here that I found myself skimming backwards in the book like it’s a Choose Your Own […]

Lost in the Future Vol 1: The Storm by Damian

December 25, 2025 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Lost in the Future by Damian was beautifully illustrated by Àlex Fuentes. I discovered this at Forbidden Planet during a London trip this year. I unintentionally plan book crawls, sometimes with too ambitious goals, whenever I travel. I had about 5 minutes until they closed to pick something, and this is what I chose. During a field trip, a group of kids wanders off and falls down a hole. It’s giving Alice in Wonderland rabbit hole meets Adventure Time vibes. They discover it’s a portal and […]

Seattle? Yes. Starbucks? Bit too early for that.

Ishmael by Barbara Hambly

When my mother was attending University, the drama professor had Mom and others pickup Jim Steranko, Harlan Ellison, Isaac Asimov and most importantly for this review Gene Roddenberry at the airport and drive them around when they had been booked for a series of lectures they gave at the school.  So I have heard all the stories told at these lectures. Combined with my maternal aunt’s love affair with all things Star Trek (until my mother took her to see A New Hope; then it […]

Cute and timey-wimey

One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky

December 9, 2025 by Fiat.Luxury Leave a Comment

This story is about is a time war gone wrong, and a hero (?) taking it upon himself to make sure no one ever discovers time travel again (or past?  or…since? or whatever.)    Our protagonist lives an idyllic life at the end of time. He is the last surviving warrior from the Causality War. He has engineered time such that he is just there, at the end, waiting for other time travelers to show up (and they always do) so he can eliminate them […]

She Knocked it Out of the Park

The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow

December 1, 2025 by Tracy 2 Comments

I had forgotten just how much I love Alix E. Harrow, especially her prose. I’ve read all of her novels and novellas and a few of her short stories, and this one is my favorite, which is interesting considering how much I typically don’t prefer to read about time travel. But her writing is great, and so was the story itself. The novel is set in a fantasy world, and the timeline moves between present day and the past. Owen, one of the narrators, is […]

Earthdivers V01: Kill Columbus by Stephen Graham Jones

Earthdivers V02: Ice Age! by Stephen Graham Jones

October 6, 2025 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Time travel books. I like the concept of them and even have enjoyed some time traveling TV shows and movies, and I have even enjoyed some books with the theme. However, they also can confuse the bejimminies out of me. The Earthdivers series had all the good stuff I like about books and time traveling books but also all the pieces that confuse me. And while things are fairly straight forward, when people start to backtrack on themselves, it gets confusing. Part of this is […]
