The Missed Connection by Tia Williams

June 5, 2026 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

The first part of The Missed Connection is one of the funniest romances I’ve read. I wouldn’t call the book a romcom, because it doesn’t hold on to that level of comedy. I enjoyed it, but I did feel a bit as if I was reading two different books. It starts out funny (with tragedy underpinning the humor, as the best comedy does), gets messy and a little toxic, before ending on a sweet note. Sasha is trying to come back as a casting agent […]

Moving Past Trauma Into Joy

Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

October 24, 2025 by RouletteGirl Leave a Comment

When they were just shy of eighteen years old, Eva Mercy and Shane Hall spent one intense and life-altering week together. Fifteen years later, Eva is a best-selling erotica writer living in Brooklyn with her pre-teen daughter. Shane is the reclusive darling of the literary circuit, whose award-winning books are beloved by all. They have not spoken once in all those years. But Shane unexpectedly shows up at a panel on Black literature where Eva is a panelist, and the two cannot deny that their […]

Gorgeous

A Love Song for Ricki Wilde by Tia Williams

February 4, 2024 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Tia Williams has just made me like a fated lovers romance. Not like. Love. Lovers who are destined for each other is one of my least favorite tropes, but WIlliams makes this work for me. She throws in the right mix of magic and logic, and gives us achingly human characters. Now is the perfect time to read this. A lot of the action takes place in February 2024. Williams grounds her magic in the leap year, almost making me believe in the magic of […]

Hilarious but uneven!

Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

November 26, 2021 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

This book was, ultimately, a bit uneven and as such alternatingly held and lost my interest. The premise is great–it’s not a romance novel, it’s a romance wrapped in a larger story about a woman who has constantly put the feelings of others first and is learning to prioritize herself. It’s beautifully written and evocative and makes you feel. But as it were, I found myself growing less invested in the story of Eva and Shane as the book went on, which is…not what you want […]
