Angst!

The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater

The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater

August 25, 2022 by carmelpie 2 Comments

“It was funny, the Gray Man thought, how humorous she always appeared, how that smile was always just a moment away from her lips. You really didn’t see the sadness or the longing unless you already knew it was there. But that was the trick, wasn’t it? Everyone had their disappointment and their baggage; only, some people carried it in their inside pockets and not on their backs. And here was the other trick: Maura was not faking her happiness. She was both very happy […]

Is That a Pack of 18th-Century Divination Cards in Your Pocket, or Are You Just Happy to See Me?

Lozzy's Complete Guide To Lenormand: Workbook Edition by Lozzy Phillips

August 19, 2022 by Tava 6 Comments

I’m awful at cocktail parties. I don’t handle small talk well. As an introvert who presents as an extrovert, the idea of asking what twenty people do for a living is exhausting. It’s much more interesting to really have one good, deep, revealing conversation. Which is why for over thirty years, I’m the weird chick who looks up at you as you’re going for seconds on the chilled shrimp and mumbles, “I’ve got a deck of Tarot cards in my pocket. Wanna meet on the […]

A fun introduction to tarot especially if you want to read for others

Kitchen Table Tarot by Melissa Cynova

May 8, 2021 by Mobius_Walker 5 Comments

This is another entry in the Kitchen Table series by Melissa Cynova. This book, Kitchen Table Tarot, is an introduction to tarot cards and tarot reading. Cynova breaks the book down into three main parts: an introduction to tarot and tarot reading in general, her interpretation of the cards and how she reads, and a guide on how to do readings for other people. Overall, I felt that the the first and third parts had enough overlap that having multiple chapters at the start and end […]

Interesting exploration on how we find meaning, iffy delivery

The Castle of Crossed Destinies by Italo Calvino

December 18, 2020 by Mobius_Walker 3 Comments

This book is told in two parts: The Castle and The Tavern. In both situations, a group of strangers come together around a table and strangely, inexplicably find themselves all mute. They yearn to tell each other their stories, and thankfully someone has a deck of Tarot cards with which each person attempts to choose cards to lay out in various configurations in order to communicate their tale. In the first half, The Castle, things are orderly; people take turns telling their story and they […]

Paging Mary Sue. Paging Mary Sue to the Tarot Academy

Tarot Academy 2: Spells of Breath and Blade by Sarah Piper

September 13, 2020 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

We are still in the midst of a pandemic, so I think we all need some fun, light-hearted reads to keeps spirits high. I figured that the second installment in the Tarot Academy books would be that fun read. It became difficult to finish this book though on account that my eyes were constantly rolled to the back of my head. Where the first book in this series created an interesting and well-explained magical system that was balanced well with the romance parts of the story, […]

An easy transition to Tarot

Exploring Tarot Using Radiant Rider-Waite by Avia Venefica

August 24, 2020 by Mobius_Walker Leave a Comment

I recently bought this book and Tarot card deck box set. The cards themselves are beautifully illustrated and colored. However, I’m here to review the book. Venefica starts with a history of Tarot and a brief introduction to how the Tarot deck works. Venefica then dips into a glossary and overview of larger symbology. She does a great job of laying the foundation of exploration of the cards in depth through the book. Each explanation is easy to understand and doesn’t overload the reader with […]
