Roll with the Insanity, it’s Amazeballs

February 14, 2015 by chettsgenie 1 Comment

‘Kill Ball’ is the story of a lonely guy, Colin, who accidentally caused his mother’s death when he was a kid. All he’s ever wanted was to be held, but the increasingly isolated world he lives in has made this desire impossible. He becomes obsessed with a stripper he believes he has a special connection with. A killer is stalking the streets and seems to have his sights set on Colin’s girl. Oh yeah, and everyone rolls around in giant hamster balls. How could I […]

In space, no one can hear you scream like a little girl

January 25, 2015 by janniethestrange 4 Comments

While standing in the checkout line at the grocery store, waiting as patiently as I could while  a previous customer argued over coupon redemption and dug around for and counted out exact change, this book caught my eye. I don’t have a lot of experience with the sci fi genre but it  was either that or some tabloid with one Kardashian or other on the cover. I picked it up, glanced at the cover, perused the enthusiastic blurbs and read the first few pages, suddenly […]

MacGyver goes to space

January 2, 2015 by alwaysanswerb 1 Comment

Goodreads summary: “Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first men to walk on the surface of Mars. Now, he’s sure he’ll be the first man to die there. It started with the dust storm that holed his suit and nearly killed him, and that forced his crew to leave him behind, sure he was already dead. Now he’s stranded millions of miles from the nearest human being, with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive–and even if he could […]

In the End, it Was the Sunday Afternoons He Couldn’t Cope With

March 11, 2014 by Walking Widdershins Leave a Comment

Dirk Gently returns, only this time he’s not dealing with aliens and the possible end of the world. No, this time it’s the record industry. Sort of. Dirk’s hired by a guy to save his life from a giant with a scythe. Unfortunately, Dirk oversleeps his first day on the job, and his client’s head ends up on a record turntable. That’s not good. Dirk traces a signed contract he found in his client’s house through a number of people connected to “Hot Potato” – […]

All Things are Fundamentally Interconnected

March 11, 2014 by Walking Widdershins 3 Comments

Did you know that today (March 11th) is (was) Douglas Adams’ birthday? He would have been 62 today. I wonder what sort of books he’d be writing. Adams is (was) mostly known for the Hitchhiker’s trilogy (yeah, I know), but the Dirk Gently books (I’m assuming there would have been more had he lived longer) were an entertaining series themselves. To attempt to describe the plot of this book would take more brain power than I currently have (stupid daylight savings whatever thing). So – […]
