Yeah, definitely going to need a 2nd read

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

July 24, 2024 by KimMiE" 2 Comments

CBR16 BINGO: Part 2, for the second book in the Locked Tomb series I look back fondly on the days when, in my innocence, I thought Gideon the Ninth was a complicated novel. I read that book twice, thank goodness, because if I hadn’t, I would have either been even more confused by Harrow the Ninth, or I’d have shrugged off details that didn’t make sense thinking I was simply misremembering them. After finishing Harrow the Ninth, I am spent. I’m as weak and cowed […]

The second read is even better. Like, a lot better for a book I already enjoyed once.

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

CBR16 BINGO: Part 1, for the first book in the Locked Tomb series I first read Gideon the Ninth several years ago and, while it took me a little while to get into it, I ended up really enjoying it, giving it 4 stars on Goodreads. I’ve been wanting to read Harrow the Ninth, and when it finally became available through my library, I decided to reread Gideon to refresh my memory and prep my brain. Thank goodness I decided to reread Gideon, because, first of […]

Still Piecing Together the Puzzle

Nona the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

July 15, 2024 by Tracy Leave a Comment

After reading this, I don’t know how I’m going to be able to wait for the last book to come out. Although I think Harrow the Ninth was the best out of the three Locked Tomb books, Nona the Ninth was still so good, and I want to know how everything is going to unfold in the end. Nona has a very different tone than the first two books, primarily because it’s following Nona, who could not be more different from both Gideon and Harrowhark. Although in […]

SO Glad I Continued the Series – This Was Perfect

Harrow the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

June 28, 2024 by Tracy Leave a Comment

Oh my goodness, I don’t even know where to start. After Gideon the Ninth, I thought I would eventually give this sequel a try, but I wasn’t super interested. Except then I kept thinking about it and decided not to wait, and that was the best decision ever. This book is just so good. All I want to do is gush. Harrow is now a Lyctor but a “broken” one with no memories of Gideon. She and Ianthe are training with the other remaining OG […]

Not What I Was Hoping For, but I’m (Probably) Not Giving Up

Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

June 18, 2024 by Tracy 2 Comments

I don’t think I’ve read a science fantasy book before, so this was a cool first for me. It also had more horror elements than I typically read, and I found the darkness didn’t bother me (mostly). I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I’ve realized that I tend to have trouble explaining my feelings on 3-star reads and the mix of things that worked and didn’t work for me, but let’s give it a go. Gideon Nav is an orphan living in the […]

First Book of the Year – A Book About Books

The Book That Wouldn’t Burn by Mark Lawrence

March 17, 2024 by LittlePlat 1 Comment

This is a late start for me this year—I have had a very busy couple of months. Hopefully things smooth out a bit! Lucky me, Mark Lawrence knocks it out of the park again. The man can write some serious engaging blends of fantasy and science fiction. With The Book That Wouldn’t Burn—the first book of his new trilogy—we have a love letter to stories, libraries and nostalgia.  Unlike a number of his previous trilogies (yes, the man is a prolific writer) The Book That […]
