So I know there’s nothing wrong with reading smut (that’s what I’m calling this entire series), but it’s not usually my jam. I started listening to the first book because it had my name in the title. I was excited. Then I got into it and was like “oh boy, I’m reading alien porn”. I didn’t stop though. It’s actually alien porn with a touch of interpersonal drama, peril, natural disasters, and lots of focus on consent. These books are mostly fun. You can’t listen […]

“Okay, nerd. We’ll call this place Not-Hoth then.”

Barbarians of the Ice Planet by Ruby Dixon

September 8, 2022 by Nart 2 Comments

What did I just read and why was it… pretty good? Did you ever wonder what would happen if Star Trek’s Trills were blue, huge, and existed in the (copyright safe) Star Wars universe instead? Well Dixon has a book for you once you’re settled and comfortable in horny jail. Plot: Georgie is one of eleven human women abducted by aliens to, in all likelihood, be sold off as slaves. Fortunately, before this highly unpleasant future can be made reality, the ship experiences massive failure […]

This gives romantic sci-fi a bad name

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

June 13, 2021 by katie71483 2 Comments

I picked up Ice Road Barbarians by Ruby Dixon on Kindle Unlimited because the listing was flagged as “Number 1 in Romantic Comedy” and since it’s obviously sci-fi, I thought it might be a delightful bit of space camp à là Spaceballs. But, you know, in book form. IT IS NOT THAT AT ALL. I have been unable to get it to display with that tag now that I’ve read it, which makes me wonder if there was a glitch or if I only imagined […]

Dragon Lover

Fire in His Blood by Ruby Dixon

March 22, 2020 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

I’m finally back at the book reviews just in time for Spring! Last year for Cannonball Read 11, I read Ruby Dixon’s Ice Planet Barbarians, which was a steamy hot tale of alien-human with a great mix of humor and heart. I discovered she has another set of books that involves DRAGONS!!! and picked up Fire in His Blood from the library. In the first book of the Fireblood Dragon series, we meet our main character Claudia in jail for scavenging outside the bounds of […]

Hunky blue aliens to the rescue

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

December 31, 2019 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

Ice Planet Barbarians came highly recommended by The Ripped Bodice bookstore. The blue-skinned alien on the cover had me intrigued!  This is the first book of SEVENTEEN about a group of young women stranded on the said ice planet. Each introduces us to a different woman and a potential barbarian suitor. In this one, we meet Georgie on Earth where she is kidnapped in her sleep by some slave trading bobblehead aliens. Half the women are crowded in a cage while the other half sleep […]
