Revisiting a Book I Thought was Fine the First Time. Still Fine.

Angels Fall by Nora Roberts

March 29, 2020 by Emmalita Leave a Comment

Scribd does this thing where after you’ve listened to a couple of book, they make all the other books you want to listen to “unavailable” until the day after your subscription renews. It’s annoying. Anyway, after listening to the Murderbot Diaries, all the scifi I planned to listen to was unavailble, but a couple of Nora Roberts’ books were available. Knowing that I would only be able to listen to one, I flipped a quarter and picked Angels Fall. I read this one years ago […]

Wonderful Romantic Suspense Offering by Roberts

Under Currents by Nora Roberts

November 12, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Some of Nora Robert’s romantic suspense books are hit or miss with me. Either I think the murder/suspense piece takes up too much of the book leaving the romance wanting, or the romance is great, but the actual murder/suspense feels superfluous with the plot. With “Under Currents” Roberts does a great job of building up the romance between the two leads and also making the overall plot (how abuse shapes and changes many people) worked well together. I loved the characters of Zane and Darby […]

For Fans of Jane Eyre and Rebecca

Verity by Colleen Hoover

October 22, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

I don’t know what to say. This book really surprised me. Hoover hits on a great mix of themes from works like Jane Eyre and Rebecca to draw you in. Then you get a surprise ending that had me going what in the world and I wanted to dive back into the book all over again. I think that the first part of the book may start off a bit slow for readers, but by the time the heroine (Lowen) finds Verity’s autobiography you are […]

A Return to Form for Eve Dallas

Connections in Death by J.D. Robb

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

So, my initial thoughts of “Connections in Death” hold. However, I have to admit that I can’t give this five stars because I am now realizing it’s a bit off that Eve doesn’t get that maybe other people have different upbringings and it’s not all roses. I am happy that we get to see another side of New York though and it’s not just the rich and famous all of the time. “Connections in Death” focuses on Eve investigating when a woman she just meets […]

Most of the Book Focused on Suspense Not the Romance

The Obsession by Nora Roberts

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Not too much to say here. Roberts focuses mostly on the suspense aspect of this book and it works much better. The main reason why I gave it three stars is that I think that it would have been smart to include the POV of Naomi’s brother as well. Thank goodness though he doesn’t enter into a romance in this one. I loved how they both changed based on what happened with their parents and the paths they took. Other than that the book felt […]

Not That Engrossing, Story Loses Itself Halfway Through

Sanctuary by Nora Roberts

May 3, 2019 by Classic Leave a Comment

Well “Sanctuary” was not that interesting in the end. I think this is one of Robert’s earlier works in romantic suspense. We have three siblings (of course) and most of the book is following the as they act brand new about love and relationships. “Sanctuary” mostly hones in on one of the three siblings, Jo Ellen, though is a successful photographer who returns to her home after getting sent a bunch of threatening photos. One of the photos is of her mother who her family […]
