My Highland Bride, which stars a hard-headed, Scottish nobleman, an equally stubborn, time-traveling Southern lady (& her sister), a set of unfortunate circumstances, a few too many “noble” intentions, and a long tangled road to the happy ending. It’s the second book in Maeve Greyson’s Highland Hearts series, and the ending certainly leads right into book three, whenever that might be coming. Watching Kenna and Collum but heads (and hearts) was entertaining, although I could’ve done with about a third less problems popping up in […]
A Contemporary Romance Review Mostly About Furniture
Low Tide Bikini was free and yet somehow overpriced. I genuinely respect people who complete writing a book, and in this case a series, but the accomplishments of writing a book and writing a good book are two very different things. Lyla Dune’s writing is clichéd and facile, the plot and characters sophomoric. If it is the work of a teenaged writer, I commend the effort, if not, it’s unsuccessful escapism, a Lifetime movie of a novel. From Amazon: Sam Carlisle is the double bass […]
Perfect Beach Read
Disclaimer: Most of my books are in storage. My husband and I are renovating our house in Washington DC and except for tools and two bicycles, we have an empty first floor. So, when I finished my last two books, I realize “I need to buy something for Cannonball!” And I was at Rite Aid waiting to pick up a prescription. I looked at the books and I knew Sweet Salt Air would be the kind of book I would hate to admit that I […]
A cliché-ridden gender-bender that skipped the only cliché that would have made it worthwhile.
NB: I received a free copy of this book from the Goodreads First Reads program, but that has not affected the content of my review. I curse this book for breaking my streak of writing reviews within about a day or so of finishing the books. This book has singlehandedly caused me to be six reviews behind, and counting. Grrrr. Mostly I think this is because when I feel so apathetic about a book, neither really liking or disliking it, it’s hard to work up […]
“Whether Nick wanted to be or not, he was the sun, and everyone revolved around him…”
I love GFY and I am a fan of William and Kate, so this book was right up my alley. It’s cute and romantic and fun, probably more fun than the Spoiled books because I can pretend to be an adult while reading it. You can read my full review here.
A bit of a cliched mess.
This book didn’t really work for me as a whole, but I needed a fluffy dum-dum book very badly, so I enjoyed it anyway. A Lady By Midnight is the third book in Dare’s Spindle Cove series, a place where odd and unwanted women of England flock to recover from their traumas or get away and let their freak flags fly. The whole thing is a feminist fantasy, of course, but that’s part of its charm. Dare’s characters are ones who could never have existed […]
