Star Dust Is Golden

March 26, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

Buy Star Dust and read it. Heck, it’s free on Amazon right now. Genevieve Turner and Emma Barry have written a solid romance with great period detail and poignant moments that go with and beyond the love story Star Dust tells. The first of the Fly Me to the Moon series, each of the historical romances in the group feature an astronaut. It looks like they jump around in decades, so there are lots of period elements – the heroine os Star Dust smokes! – […]

Take a Moment with the Fantastic Cover

Imago by N.R. Walker

March 22, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 2 Comments

Look at these two nice people falling in love! It’s so sweet. They’re both so lovely. They match so well. Everyone is down-to-earth and sensible. It’s so realistic. Is it maybe just a little bit dull? Recently, I have been reading a lot of N.R. Walker contemporary M/M romances because they are very pleasant and occasionally delightful, the Australian settings lend a certain subtle exoticism, and they were almost all free for my e-reader. Of the six or so I’ve read, I’d recommend Imago and […]

There Ought to Be a Hyphen, Right?

Sixty Five Hours by N.R. Walker

March 16, 2017 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

Sixty Five Hours was my third N.R. Walker romance in a short period of time. It’s about two gorgeous and successful people who have a short window of time to prepare an advertising campaign. As this is a contemporary kissing book with a marriage of convenience plot, virtually all of the preparation work falls to the men to complete and they undertake it at one of their homes. A by-the-numbers romance very much in what I think of as the Harlequin vein, specifically whatever their […]

Convenient Exoticism and a Wedding Night Without Central Heating

November 23, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 5 Comments

This first book in Mary Balogh’s new Regency romance Westcott series got off to a good start with a great heroine, a play on a familiar romance plot, and a somewhat inscrutable hero. About halfway through, the story lost steam and fell prey to a trope whose day has past. Once again, a toad of an aristocrat has had the temerity to die and leave his estate in disarray as he failed to disclose a rightful heir to his fortune and rendered his own children […]

Spoilers Then Annoyances for a Kissing Book

A Stone in the Sea by A.L. Jackson

November 15, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 6 Comments

I’m going to start this review with a quick plot summary, move on to a negative expostulation, and finish up with the notes I made while reading. Sebastian (Baz) and his band members are in exile on Tybee Island, Georgia because he beat a powerful business contact “within an inch of his life” for serious non-specified harm done to his brother. Stepping out at night, Baz meets Shea waiting tables at her uncle’s local bar. They fight their attraction for 1.2 seconds… something, something,  I […]

Tuck’s Perfection Everlasting

The Goal by Elle Kennedy

November 4, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 3 Comments

In the fourth, but hopefully not final, book in Elle Kennedy’s enjoyable Off Campus contemporary new adult romance  series, another university student hockey player and lovely young woman find a future in each other as they move inexorably towards adult lives. Sabrina James has been surviving on ambition, overwork, and very little sleep as she drives herself through her final undergrad year. Determined to make a better life for herself and gain distance from her grinding family life, she is going to go to law […]
