Monsterlogica: A menagerie of monsters, beasts and magical beings by Martin Maudsley and Victoria Topping

The Big Book of Useless History Knowledge: 250 of the Coolest, Weirdest, and Most Unbelievable History Facts You Won't Be Taught in School by Kay Wolfersperger, Liz Kay, Lauren Radley, Neon Squid, and Vicky Armstrong

It is that time of year when the publishers are promoting their future releases. Two of those books that were highlighted are below in this combined review. Neither had a finished online readers copy available, but what they did have made me terribly excited When I started Monsterlogica: A menagerie of monsters, beasts and magical beings by Martin Maudsley and illustrator Victoria Topping (due September 2026) I was not sure of it. Another monster book? Eh. I mean, sure monsters are fun, they could add […]

Never Tell Me the Odds

Cypher System Rulebook by Monte Cook

April 4, 2021 by dsbs42 Leave a Comment

This is one of those reviews where my original write-up got erased when my computer unexpectedly updated and the autosaved version was from the draft of my previous book review, so I’d really like to just type “I WROTE IT ALREADY” with a bunch of crying/angry/head explodey emojis and move on. 🤯😠😡😖😫😭🤬🤬🤬☠     🤬 However, this doesn’t really feel like it should count as a review, so here goes nothing. (I just feel like I’m forgetting so much of what I originally wanted to […]

An awesome resource for parents.

Despite the somewhat foreboding title, this is a great reference book for tackling the innumerable ways children are little buttholes without also being a butthole yourself. One thing I liked about this book was that it spends at least as much time addressing ways to prevent things you’ll need to discipline as it does on how to handle the problems. Half of parenting is just mastering scheduling your life around naptime and getting good at redirecting and making smaller humans think things are their […]

Actually kind of life-changing.

This book may not apply to many of my fellow Cannonballers’ lives, but if it does, wow. Run, do not walk, to Amazon and buy it. My fifteen month old daughter is not like a lot of other toddlers her age. I’ve always felt strongly about applying negative labels to her. The best way I can really describe her is that she’s a lot. She’s just…a lot. Not always in a bad way. But she’s a lot more sensitive, a lot more stubborn, a lot […]

This crazy fool is reviewing a textbook!

August 18, 2014 by genericwhitegirl 3 Comments

Ummmmm…this is a textbook. Wait! Don’t stop reading! Okay, okay, the textbook wasn’t SO AWESOME I had to review it. It was more like, “I’m reading this entire book for a class and damn right I’m gonna get credit on my CBR for it.” It kept me away from other books for EIGHT WEEKS for crying out loud. It’s not like I’m computer illiterate. I grew up in a house that always had at least one computer. I remember using DOS at my high school […]

Tart green apple on the nose, with a smooth mouthfeel and a dry, cheeky finish

January 12, 2014 by alannaofdoom Leave a Comment

Does this actually count as a book? I know there’s no minimum page requirement, but 20 pages is not a lot of pages. Well, I have read it, and now I shall review it! Hang on, I’m just going to pour a glass* first. OK I’m back. A few weeks ago, NPR aired a segment about this book. I was immediately charmed by the interview, and resolved to track down the book and buy it immediately. You see, I enjoy a glass of wine, but […]
