Okay, I’m back. I haven’t lost my mind, or my grip on reality. Everything’s fine. It took me a long time to read this final installment of “The Dark Tower” series. Sure, it’s super long, but it’s shorter than a few of the other installments. I just truly didn’t want it to end, so I stretched it out, found distractions and procrastinations, and delayed the inevitable. This final chapter is less full of revelation, and doesn’t so closely ressemble a conspiracy theorist’s corkboard with pushpins and yarn (see also: Charlie’s Pepe Silvia wall in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”). A Twisted Trip Down the Yellow Brick Road
The "Wonderful" Wizard of Futhermucking Oz by Matt Youngmark
I should start this review by saying that I am a huge Oz nerd. One of my favorite books when I was a kid was the Wizard of Oz and I went on to read most of the sequels. I have seen the movie so many times because I was born in the 70s and it was always on TV at least once a year. Plus I’ve seen the Wiz, read Wicked, and probably think about how awesome life would be in Oz. But since I don’t live in tornado-country, it probably isn’t going to happen for me! Anyway, I […]
The Wrecked World of A Fairy Tale
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
I’m going back on forth on whether this is a two star or three star books. We’ll say two and a half and round up (I rounded down on Goodreads, cause I’m mean) It’s fine, I liked it better then Wicked, but there are a lot of problems and it’s mostly just meh. Except it’s also Oz, and guys, I love Oz. Let’s start with Oz; I’ve been in love with the Oz books for as long as I’ve been reading. I’ve only read the Baum books, though at some point I suppose I should track down the others, and I still enjoy […]
This neighbourhood has really gone downhill…
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
What if Dorothy went back to Oz? And what if she is actually the villain of the story? This YA novel posits that Dorothy returned to Oz and took over. She might have started off benign, but once she had power in Oz, she became an absolute tyrant. Her insistence on the appearance of happiness has led to a brutal regime that destroys all that is not beautiful or happy-looking. The Scarecrow, the Lion and the TinMan are all her corrupt cronies and Ozma, the true ruler of Oz, has disappeared. The story is told in first person by a […]
