I’m super digging this series.

February 13, 2016 by narfna 2 Comments

So you know how you’re reading one book and you think you know all about it and then BAM IT’S ANOTHER BOOK AND WHAT IS HAPPENING EVEN? And then you’re like, ohhhhh shiiiiiit. This book. This one right here. Honestly, I should know better by now. After I finish up Bands of Mourning, I’m sure in rather short order, the only books of Brandon Sanderson’s I won’t have read will be the Alcatraz books. I’m used to his tricks. And still. I thought I had this […]

Dammit, Brandon Sanderson, write a bad book once in a while!

February 10, 2016 by narfna 15 Comments

Holy shitsticks, this was fun. I’m sure Brandon Sanderson won’t be the last person to play around with evolving his/her fantasy world into some imagined future, but he was the first to do it, and that’s really something. This book actually happened sort of by accident. He was always planning on taking the world of the Mistborn trilogy (called Scadrial) and moving it forward to do two more trilogies, one set in a 1980s equivalent world, and a space opera where Allomancy (magic) exists side […]

When your husband tells you he killed someone, you might want to be a little nervous

February 5, 2016 by expandingbookshelf 7 Comments

Rebecca is one of those books I was always assumed I had read. I knew the basics of the plot, and of course the famous opening line, “Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again.” When I realized I’d somehow missed reading it, I picked it up. It’s the perfect book to curl up with on a rainy Sunday with a cup of tea. While I didn’t love it as much as everyone else seems to, I certainly enjoyed it. While working as the […]

Possible Precursor to The Human Centipede?

February 4, 2016 by BacaBuku 1 Comment

This is one of the books recommended by Guillermo del Toro on Twitter. The stories in this book were not as scary as I thought they would be. There were no spine-chilling ghosts or murderers lurking behind a window, all images that were swirling in my head as I began reading in my bed that night. The stories in here are mostly about the moral failings of flawed human beings. The main characters mostly think they can get away with the perfect crime, but usually […]

Like Kool Aid And Boxed Wine (Mixed Together)

February 2, 2016 by Melina 2 Comments

So Book Bub is sometimes my friend and sometimes my nemesis.  This time? I have no idea what it is to me.  So I guess I checked off Romance, Mystery and Suspense…and this one has all three in its parenthetical sub title so it would make sense that they would send this selection to me as something I may want to read.  And read it I did.  171 ridiculous pages of something I really didn’t want to put down but I have no idea why because […]

What did I just read?

February 1, 2016 by NVVN Leave a Comment

So, I finished this book this morning and I might have liked it?  Maybe?  I’m not really sure how I felt about it.  It might have been good, but I think I might have simply been trying to figure out WTF was going on.  Instead of good, maybe intriguing would be a better description.  I’ll try to explain. The book has many viewpoints/location points.  There’s some sort of interplanetary organization (John and Quinn work there)where the Chair has died, a successor has been announced […]
