Not All Stories Are Created Equal, Enjoyed The Collection Though

March 6, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

Many long time Christie fans know that Hercule would go on and on about retiring (at least it felt like it) well in this collection we have Hercule talking about going into retirement and growing the perfect vegetable marrow. This makes me think that the events in this collection all occur before the events in “The Murder of Roger Ackroyd.” Poirot’s conversation with his friend, Dr. Burton leads into the Greek hero named Hercules and his 12 labors that he undertook. What did make me […]

Great Debut for Character from Rhyme Books

March 6, 2017 by Classic Leave a Comment

I was really intrigued by the character of Kathryn Dance in “Cold Moon.” Having a character that uses kinesics in order to get witnesses and suspects to open up and or confess. In “The Sleeping Doll” we get more information on the character of Kathryn Dance. She works at the California Bureau of Investigation (think of a state office set up like the FBI) and is about to interrogate a man who murdered a family decades earlier (Daniel Pell). Pell is seen as similar to […]

This Series Needs a Shakeup Fast

March 5, 2017 by Classic 9 Comments

Well I don’t know what to really say except that I found this whole book except for a couple places to be extremely disappointing. I really do think that it would be better if this series either ends soon or does a jump forward in time or we follow another person to take up the “In Death” mantle like Nikki Swisher from the “Survivor in Death” book which was# 24. That gets me on another topic can you believe it’s been a year since the […]

“You also have a reputation as an assassin.” she said. “Mmmm. It’a a wonder I have time to eat breakfast with all I do.”

3.5 stars Lady Angelique Archer is desperate for money and needs to make sure that no one in polite society is aware of it. Lucky for her, she is mathematical genius who can do huge amounts of sums in her head and count cards from more than one deck at a time. She’s been using her brilliant mind to win substantial amounts of money at vingt-et-un-table in the gaming club of Alexander Lavoie, doing her very best to stay unnoticed to everyone. She needs the […]

A Reluctant Inappropriate Earl

March 3, 2017 by Mikki Blu 4 Comments

Warning: Contains hot m/m sex between a deeply inappropriate earl and a very confused magician, dark plots in a magical version of Victorian England, family values (not the good kind), and a lot of swearing. This was such a magical, steamy, witty, entertaining read!  Having read a couple M/M historical romance by Cat Sebastian, I was prompted by Ellepkay to check out Ms Charles books.  Thanks for that recommendation – I wasn’t disappointed!  This first book in the series had me hooked pretty much from […]

The Merry Misogynist - Cotterill

Terrifically Beguiling

March 3, 2017 by G.D. Giant Leave a Comment

I picked this book up on a whim while at a local thrift store. I had never heard of the author, Colin Cotterill, and I had never heard of the series, featuring Dr. Siri Paiboun.  But, pick it up I did, and, when I needed something to cheer me up after the slog that was the last book I read/reviewed, Half-Blood Blues, this book did the trick. The Merry Misogynist is a mystery set in Laos in 1978.  It features Dr. Siri Paiboun, a seventy-three-year-old […]

I really enjoyed this one. I was particularly amused at Lady Catherine deBoutgh’s disgust at her assassin’s incompetence.
