The things people do for their siblings

The Starter Ex by Mia Sosa

March 25, 2026 by Jen K Leave a Comment

I have tendency to forget character names rather quickly, even if I mostly retain plot. As a result, I kept wondering if this novel was going to be a sequel to When Javi Dumped Mari. After all, the cover art had the same feel and style, and even though The Worst Best Man and The Wedding Crasher are in the same universe, they aren’t listed as a series. Vanessa absolutely could have been one of Mari’s friends whose name I had forgotten. Turns out, unless […]

Acting on Impulse by Mia Sosa

December 29, 2025 by Nart Leave a Comment

Plot: Carter has gotten some commercial success as an actor on a popular tv show and desperately wants to prove to the world that he’s capable of being more than a romantic lead. After a grueling film left him 40lbs lighter than usual and exhausted, he was sent on agent-ordered vacation to Aruba. His instructions are clear – lay low and regain some strength before diving into the promotion circuit, returning to filming the TV show, and hunting down his next (hopefully) meaty role. Things are instantly […]

“I’m a work in progress.”

When Javi Dumped Mari by Mia Sosa

December 29, 2025 by Nart Leave a Comment

Something of a blend of When Harry Met Sally and My Best Friend’s Wedding.  Plot: Javi and Mari have been best friends since university. Mari is the DEI hater’s wet dream. She’s what I imagine AOC would have been like in university. Fierce, intelligent, and intensely intimidating. She is too much for pretty much everyone and she deals with it by never really giving her whole heart to anyone. So when Javi meets her and catches feelings, he decides never to venture down that path. She is too […]

Contemporary romance round up – summer reads

Can’t Get Enough by Kennedy Ryan

Along Came Amor by Alexis Daria

When Javi Dumped Mari by Mia Sosa

December 29, 2025 by Jen K 2 Comments

Both Kennedy Ryan and Alexis Daria released the final novels in their latest romance trilogies in May of this year. I enjoyed both but they focused on very different types of characters (oddly enough, it was a flip between the characters they focused on in the second novel – so for Primas of Power, we get the cousin that always did the right thing and played by the rules in book 3 while Skyland explored that character in book 2, and Skyland focuses on the […]

Para siempre. Para sempre.

When Javi Dumped Mari by Mia Sosa

June 24, 2025 by Emmalita 1 Comment

It took me a ridiculously long time to realize that When Javi Dumped Mari is a riff on When Harry Met Sally. To be fair, to me, the only part of the movie that really stuck with me were the scenes with Carrie Fisher and Bruno Kirby. I really enjoyed When Javi Dumped Mari. I’ve liked all the Mia Sosa books I’ve read, but I loved this one. It is funny and heartfelt. I loved the ups and downs of the friendship between Mari and Javi, and between Mari […]

The Worst Best Man by Mia Sosa

April 13, 2023 by Malin Leave a Comment

When wedding planner Carolina “Lina” Santos was mere moments from her own wedding, the best man, the groom’s younger brother came to tell her that his brother had cold feet and would not be showing up to the ceremony. Since that moment, Lina has kept a very tight check on her emotions and is now proud of her reputation as trusted, efficient, and very unflappable  She obviously doesn’t want anyone to know about her own wedding disaster a few years back.  So it’s not all […]
