Plot: Carter has gotten some commercial success as an actor on a popular tv show and desperately wants to prove to the world that he’s capable of being more than a romantic lead. After a grueling film left him 40lbs lighter than usual and exhausted, he was sent on agent-ordered vacation to Aruba. His instructions are clear – lay low and regain some strength before diving into the promotion circuit, returning to filming the TV show, and hunting down his next (hopefully) meaty role. Things are instantly complicated by the arrival of Tori on his flight there. Tori is gorgeous and he instantly decides he is going to marry her (only a little bit facetiously). Tori, as it turns out, is en-route to Aruba to escape a highly public breakup with a city councilor who loves the limelight. She is in Aruba to avoid the press, and determined never to date anyone who lives in the public realm again. But she doesn’t recognize him, and they pick up, after a rough start, a quick and easy rapport. Of course, she soon finds out who he is and bee lines out of his life. Carter isn’t done yet, though. He needs to gain back as much of the weight as he can – in muscle ideally, and he has 6 weeks to do it. Who’s better suited than the personal trainer he just met who he can be sure (for once) won’t leak photos of him to the press? And the gym could use the exposure. Shenanigans ensue.
It’s a cute story about mostly reasonable people behaving reasonably. They are, of course, flawed, and make mistakes, but these people have all gone to therapy and it shows. Conflicts arise and are resolved mostly easily and amicably. The real issue for me was that there seemed to be some dissonance between the simple issues they were dealing with in fairly gentle ways, and the intensity of some of the behviour but your milage will almost certainly vary.
