So I first read A Wrinkle in Time around 20 years ago. That’s my best guess. I remembered nothing about it, except that I did not like it at all, on a fairly strong level. So when I heard they were making a new movie I shrugged, but then it was directed by Ava DuVernay (yes), staring a diverse cast (YES), and then the trailer dropped. All in. Alllllll in. And it’s our bookclub book today! Reread commencing. I’m going to skip the plot synopsis […]
“We do not know what things look like. We know what things are like. It must be a very limiting thing, this seeing.”
I still love this. The last time I read A Wrinkle in Time was ten years ago. I hadn’t read the book in years before that, and barely remembered it, except for a few images that had burned into my subconscious (the man with the red eyes, for example; the Murry’s vegetable garden and their laboratory; Charles Wallace; and I remembered that I thought it was terrifying). It’s basically impossible for me to read or review it now without my childhood impressions coloring it. Because […]
Wrinkle in Time Time
I know that the CBR book club is reading A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle, my next book, but I didn’t really pay attention to what one does with that. So, I read it and I’m writing a review and hopefully that will help add to the discussion. I know I owned this book as a kid, as I distinctly remember the opening chapter and that someone eats a liverwurst sandwich. I was one of the only people I knew at the time (still […]
I somehow never read this as a kid!
With all the excitement surrounding the new movie coming out, I wanted to read A Wrinkle in Time again. I say again, because I was nearly convinced I read it as a child. Somehow, I did not! I’m not sure how that happened, because this is right up my alley. I listened to the audiobook in the car, and it went so quickly! I loved it by the way. I already put holds on the rest of the books in the Time Quintet, so look […]
Discussion Topics: A Wrinkle in Time
With Ava DuVernay’s movie adaptation coming out in a month, we’re tying our first #CannonBookClub of 2018 with this 1962 science fiction fantasy classic. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle won the Newbery Medal and was runner-up for the Hans Christian Andersen Award among others. Here’s some food for thought as we get ready to discuss on February 23 and 24. Make sure to tag #CannonBookClub if you’re posting about the book, and please share the cover of your version!
Just as good as you remember
I think it’s been twenty years or more since I last read this book. I remember this book being an absolutely pivotal one in my childhood, opening wide the doors of fantasy to a little girl who had never seen herself in the hero’s role before. This was still a few years before Hermione Granger would forever change my world, but Meg Murray, Mrs Which, Mrs Who, and Mrs Whatsit (and even Aunt Beast!) were pivotal in my development as a reader. It was also […]
