Girls Before Earls by Anna Bennett

The Duchess Hunt by Lorraine Heath

May 30, 2022 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

Girls Before Earls This book had all the tropes I like–dislike at first to more, fishus galore, sassy young women, competitive boat racing (go with it), prim boarding schools…but unfortunately it lacked a certain spark that would, say, compel me to recommend this to others. Hazel was a boarding school orphan and she’s now the head of a school for other wayward girls who need to be made into society ladies. But of course Hazel wants them to be MORE and get MORE out of […]

Two back to back Beauty and the Beast-esque historical romances

The Duke and the Lady in Red by Lorraine Heath

Ravished by Amanda Quick

November 30, 2021 by wicherwill Leave a Comment

The Duke and the Lady in Red o I think this is another in a series of “Beauty and the Beast retelling” esque historical romances that I picked up on a whim, and it is…of moderate success. The book vacillates wildly between wanting to be the debauched tale of a a scandalous, disreputable Duke waiting for redemption and a very 90s-era Special Episode of historical romances. To give away the secret, of course our peerless (HA what a pun) Rosalind is secretly hiding a heart […]

Redeeming a (not so) notorious lady

An Affair with a Notorious Heiress by Lorraine Heath

August 3, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

I’ve read and enjoyed many a Lorraine Heath book, but this latest one wasn’t all that great.  It tells the tale of Alistair Mabry, Marquess of Rexton, son of a duke and a bookkeeper.  He is the typical marriage shy rake, who is determined to wait for the perfect (proper) woman to come along to avoid scandal.  His childhood had been rather difficult due to his parent’s unconventional marriage and he doesn’t intend to make that mistake.  But then he is asked to pretend to […]

The Last Hellion Takes a Wife

The Viscount and the Vixen by Lorraine Heath

March 19, 2017 by Mikki Blu 4 Comments

This is the third book in the Hellions of Havisham series, telling the tale of Killian St. John, Viscount Locksley.  He is the son of the mad Marquess of Marsden that we’ve met earlier in the series.  The marquess is said to have lost his mind with grief after his wife died and Locke has done his best to survive on his own and not upset his father overly much.  The manor is falling into disrepair, and the marquess needs to be locked in his […]

Dude, she’s your sister-in-law! Not cool

The Earl Takes All by Lorraine Heath

May 6, 2016 by Malin 6 Comments

Twin brothers, orphaned at seven, Albert and Edward Alcott were sent to be raised by a family friend, the Marquess of Marsden at Havisham Hall. Insane with grief after losing his wife, Marsden wasn’t exactly the best person to raise his own son and three orphaned boys (the third being the Duke of Ashebury, hero of the first book in the series). As the boys grew up, roaming free, they became collectively known as the Hellions of Havisham. Then Albert, the elder by a few […]

The Rose & The Rake

The Duke and the Lady in Red by Lorraine Heath

January 22, 2016 by Mikki Blu 17 Comments

I’ve lurked on Pajiba and subsequently this blog, and decided to take the plunge and join. I love to read, primarily historical romance; contemporary/new adult just don’t interest me. Whether I can review on a regular basis remains to be seen, but I hope to do my best! This book by Lorraine Heath is part of a series, Scandalous Gentlemen of St. James, and is actually the second generation of characters from a previous series but I think it works well enough on its own. […]
