A romance with a know-it-all

March 28, 2016 by Beth Ellen 10 Comments

This review has been made possible thanks to the lovely Mrs. Julien and Malin. Due to their generous sharing of the ebook I am now able to say that the new Loretta Chase, Dukes Prefer Blondes, was most enjoyable! This one is the latest in Ms. Chase’s Dressmakers series of which I haven’t read any, but it didn’t feel like I was particularly missing out. This time we have Clara, a Marquess’ daughter and all around fancy lady, and Oliver “Raven” Radford, not a duke, […]

You Knew I Was Obnoxious When You Married Me

March 15, 2016 by Mrs. Julien 13 Comments

Short Version: 4.5 stars. I adored the hero and heroine and can’t remember another time I liked both protagonists so much. The plot was very good, but not quite great, so read it for Clara and Oliver, their every moment together is a delight. Long Version: Looking forward to Clara’s book in Loretta Chase’s Dressmaker’s Series, I was not disappointed. You have to love it when it feels like a book was written with you in mind. Dukes Prefer Blondes featured a Nick and Nora Charles style […]

The Lady Prefers a Lawyer

March 9, 2016 by Mikki Blu 4 Comments

This is a book I’d been waiting to read for some time, and unlike other recent new books by favorite authors, this one didn’t disappoint!  Lady Clara Fairfax is the woman who lost the heart of the Duke of Clevedon in book one of the series, and she’s made minor appearances in the other books following.  At last, this is her story.  Even though she lost the duke, she gained a fashion stylist of the times in Marcelline Noirot, now Clevedon’s wife.  Clara was transformed […]

Lord give me patience

February 21, 2016 by alwaysanswerb 4 Comments

I recently said that I have a lot more patience for historical rogues than I do for contemporary assholes in romance. This is still true, but Sebastian Ballister, Marquess of Dain really tested my strength. Owing to not being loved enough as a child, he’s belligerently awful to everyone, even those who consider themselves friends. He doesn’t like anyone, but he’s especially contemptuous of “females.” In a fun bit of head-scratching irony, he sneers both at whores and ladies for perfectly opposing and complementary reasons: […]

Dukes prefer dressmakers

February 8, 2016 by Mikki Blu 2 Comments

This is a re-read for me while I await the newest Loretta Chase book, “Dukes Prefer Blondes” from the library. I thought it would be a good idea to read the start of the Dressmaker Series again to refresh my memory of the characters. I remembered enjoying this book when I read it originally, and it held up as being as good as the first time. Loretta Chase has maintained the thrill of romance more so than many others. In this book, Marcelline Noirot and […]

The Beauty and the Barrister

January 17, 2016 by Malin 5 Comments

Lady Clara Fairfax, eldest daughter of the Marquess of Warford and sister to the Earl of Longmore, was raised to marry a duke. The Duke of Clevedon, to be precise, but he ended up falling in love with a dressmaker instead. Not that Clara is lacking in high-born suitors. Twice a week they show up in her mother’s drawing room to ask for her hand in marriage and Clara, well bred lady that she is, politely refuses them. Clara wants to make a difference. She […]
