To Sir, with Love

To Sir, with Love by Lauren Layne

May 31, 2022 by Classic 2 Comments

What a great send up of “You’ve Got Mail!” I loved every bit of this book. It was a well-done romance and even though you know who “Sir” is, the fun was reading/watching it all come together. Just read this book if you want to be in a good mood afterwards and smile. I absolutely loved the character of Gracie and felt for her and her dreams deferred to run her family’s champagne store. Also come on, champagne? I was in heaven reading this book […]

This is what you get when you go to Reddit for advice

Broken by Lauren Layne

July 25, 2021 by Nart 4 Comments

When I’m in a reading lull, I go on reddit. I know. This is dangerous territory, but there are subreddits full of romance readers that have wildly different exposures to romance and it can be an excellent way to discover new authors. This is one of those books. Plot: Olivia is traumatized from having cheated on her longtime boyfriend with his best friend, so in true Rich Girl fashion, she throws a tantrum and tries to run away to “Rwanda or Haiti” or one of […]

Would probably have worked better if I had read previous books in the series

Someone Like You by Lauren Layne

July 15, 2019 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars From Goodreads: Lincoln Mathis doesn’t hide his reputation as Manhattan’s ultimate playboy. In fact, he cultivates it. But behind every flirtatious smile, each provocative quip, there’s a secret that Lincoln’s hiding from even his closest friends—a tragedy from his past that holds his heart quietly captive. Lincoln knows what he wants: someone like Daisy Sinclair, the sassy, off-limits bridesmaid he can’t take his eyes off at his best friend’s wedding. He also knows that she’s everything he can never have. After a devastating […]

A fun enough read, but it was too short

April 15, 2018 by Malin Leave a Comment

3.5 stars Georgiana “Georgie” Watkins is a wealthy heiress and socialite It-girl who usually comes home from her nights out around 5am, always making sure to bring donuts for the building staff before she retires to bed. While living a life of leisure and partying at night and planning charity fundraisers by day used to be diverting enough, Georgie is getting restless and bored, and starting to consider taking her dad up on one of his many job offers. Contrary to what some people think, […]

These are the kind of lines that need blurring

June 2, 2015 by NTE Leave a Comment

One of my favorite romance novel tropes is friends to lovers. Best friends to lovers? Even better.  But one of the things I hate about that trope is when a book starts off with all that “We’re proof that men and women can just be friends, contrary to what everyone in our lives keeps saying” nonsense.  If there are still people in the world who don’t believe that men and women can be in platonic relationships, I do not want to spend time with them […]

Contemporary romances for when you don’t want to overthink it

October 27, 2014 by alwaysanswerb Leave a Comment

The Sex, Love, and Stiletto series is three books so far, and there will be a fourth. It’s about a group of four women in the infamous “Dating, Love, and Sex” department at Stiletto magazine, who are each, basically, Carrie Bradshaw, but each one has her own specialty when it comes to writing about romance. The series is fun and harmless, if not especially relevatory, romance. The sex scenes, especially in the first two books, are appropriately steamy and well-written. The books are short and […]
