Once upon a time, there was a brave hero named…Grandpa

The Land of Unfinished Dreams by Marco Ventura and Marco Ferraris

July 3, 2026 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Most of my rating of four is for the fun images of Marco Ferraris in the graphic novel, The Land of Unfinished Dreams. However, the story, by Marco Ventura, had a few bumps, but once I got into things it flowed well. This was because Ferraris created images that help you see the action. The text (I am assuming) is translated which probably accounts for any issues I had to start with. In many ways, the  themes of the story are for teens and adults, […]

Contains more teeth than you can imagine

Bright World (The Hazards of Love #1) by Stan Stanley

September 12, 2022 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Title from online review   Bright World (The Hazards of Love #1) by Stan Stanley is dark, odd, sexy, thoughtful, spooky, serious, humorous, and much more. The path of love is never easy, especially when a talking cat tricks you out of your life and you are tossed into a magical realm where humans are snacks, slaves or worse. Gorgeous illustrations that are both overly busy and simple, will amaze and create unease as you flow through the story of a non-binary teen and what […]

Beyond the Himalaya Mountains

A Girl in the Himalayas by David Jesus Vignolli

October 12, 2021 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Environmental issues and man’s greed, pain, actions, and fear are countered by a young girl, Vijaya, and her new family and new friends of the other realm in this graphic novel. A Girl in the Himalayas has a unique feel. At first you get the feeling of the scene in the animated Disney move, Mulan, when the village was attacked, and the doll of the little girl is found. You then get a feeling of a child who has been orphaned and is raised by […]

A world inhabited by demons, robots, and talking animals

The Stonekeeper (Amulet, #1) by Kazu Kibuishi

February 6, 2020 by BlackRaven Leave a Comment

Several years ago, The Stonekeeper (Amulet, #1) came out. This was at the start of graphic novels being accepted in mainstream. I was still wary of them, thinking I am not an “art driven person” what couldthey give me to me? What could Kazu Kibuishi give me that text alone could not? Honestly, had I read it “back then” I would not have enjoyed it half as much as I actually did. With that said, I do wish I had the whole series, or a […]

I suspect I got more enjoyment reading your review than you did of the actual book. "Jail, jail for author...

This sounds perfectly awful, but I do love this review.
