Who is Jean Moreau if he is no longer a Raven?

The Sunshine Court (All for the Game book 4) by Nora Sakavic

The Golden Raven (All for the Game book 5) by Nora Sakavic

March 9, 2026 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

“He hasn’t played a clean game in years,” Kevin admitted, “but he knows how to follow orders. If you tell him to submit, he will.” “Literally the most awkward way you could’ve worded it,” Jeremy said. ― Nora Sakavic, The Sunshine Court The Sunshine Court tells the story of Jean Moreau after he leaves the Ravens. Jean’s story overlaps with the end of the third book in The Foxhole Court trilogy, “The King’s Men.” After being extracted from Edgar Allen, Jean Moreau must come to […]

They did the monster mash

Of Monsters and Mainframes by Barbara Truelove

March 4, 2026 by Jen K 1 Comment

I kept looking at this one last year since it would come up on various lists and then finally picked up a copy. It also ended up being announced as the February choice for the Buffering podcast book club which worked out perfect – always great when book club just helps you prioritize a book you already have. This novel was just pulpy, campy fun, combining classic horror creatures with AIs (the good fictional kind that make you discover things about humanity) and space travel. […]

When reading this book you will need to make sure you have immediate access to some incredibly delicious noodles because you will be awakening a vicious craving. A small group of robots unexpectedly reboot themselves in an abandoned ghost kitchen in post-war San Francisco. They were unexpectedly shut down before being left behind but due to an unexpected weather emergency they’re back online. Book Of Night by Holly Black

Thief Of Night by Holly Black

January 20, 2026 by finnyfinfinn Leave a Comment

For my birthday this year I decided to read both books in the Charlatan Duology, Holly Black’s Book Of Night and Thief Of Night. I’m a lucky, lucky little shadow creature. Charlie Hall is a (mostly) former con-artist trying to go straight and send her little sister to college. She used to be the Charlatan, an intriguingly effective thief willing to work in the world of shadow magicians.  With just a little blood and a lot of trauma you too can waken your shadow for […]

“Now all I can see is the longing. Not only for companionship, but for community. He’s looking for people like him. It’s very touching, and very familiar, isn’t it?”

After Hours at Dooryard Books by Cat Sebastian

January 2, 2026 by narfna 2 Comments

Nothing like starting off the new year with a five star read. I will admit I was hoping for this outcome when I picked it for my first book of the year. Cat Sebastian is increasingly becoming known for atmospheric, historically rich, community-focused, and quietly revolutionary little books. I wanted a lovely time full of lovely people that would take me away to a time in history that reflects pieces of our own Current Times while still being an escape hatch from reality. You don’t […]

“He flopped sideways, mute testament to the greatest fighting technique of all: a friend behind your enemy.”

The Devils by Joe Abercrombie

November 9, 2025 by faintingviolet 7 Comments

The Devils is my first Abercrombie book. I’ve had Half a King on my TBR for over a decade, but it hadn’t made its way onto an annual list yet. But as is often the case over the past many years narfna reviewed something ecstatically which had me checking to see if it fit a reading challenge (I’m counting this as weird horror for Read Harder and Black for CBR Bingo) and then it made its way to this year’s list.  My brain is tired having finished the nearly 550 pages of this book. But the good kind of tired. The “I just […]
