Sophronia and her series both Finish.

Manners & Mutiny (Finishing School, #4) by Gail Carriger

April 25, 2019 by narfna Leave a Comment

This was a nice ending to the series, pretty on par with the quality of the rest of the books, so if you liked those, you’ll like this one, too. I’ve just been slightly underwhelmed with this series as a whole, so I was just slightly underwhelmed with this book in the same way. I got really excited about the ending of the third book, but she didn’t really take it anywhere super exciting, just medium exciting. I did like the last two books more […]

“I want a man who stays out of my way.”

Waistcoats & Weaponry (Finishing School, #3) by Gail Carriger

All right, I liked this one quite a bit. I’m invested in the series now. But I’m still only giving this 3.5 stars, rounded up, because it shouldn’t take you two books to be emotionally invested. I should have been in like Flynn after book one. Anyway, I finished this book in a frenzy and immediately wanted the next one (which I’m not getting to until next month, sadface), so that’s a great sign. Sophronia and Co. are halfway through their second year at Madame Geraldine’s Finishing […]

“It’s no good choosing your first husband from a school for evil geniuses. Much too difficult to kill.”

Etiquette and Espionage (Finishing School, #1) by Gail Carriger

This book! This is why Goodreads need to give us half stars. This is not a three star book! Three stars, for me, is like, okay I guess I liked it, grudgingly. Or maybe I liked it but there something fundamentally wrong with it. Or maybe it’s really well written but it’s just not my thing. And four stars is: I liked it a lot and it was great! Nothing to complain about, but not my favorite, would read again. And this book fits into […]

Add Exploding Pastries to My List of Wanted Weapons

Manners & Mutiny (Finishing School #4) by Gail Carriger

First, a note of thanks to crystalclear for not wanting to bash my head in for how long this book sat on my desk, unread. It is her copy and I am a bad friend for not returning it to her in a timely fashion. Beware of friends who overcommit on their reading capacity, we’re a terrible liability to your own reading. 🙂 That being said, this is the final book of the Finishing School series, a prequel of sorts to The Parasol Protectorate series […]

A Finishing School of Covert *itchcraft and Social Wizardry

Etiquette and Espionage (Finishing School series, book 1) by Gail Carriger

June 18, 2015 by CoffeeShopReader 1 Comment

I had a harder time getting into this book as I have with other series buy the same author. I did eventually start to like the characters once they got to the school and some of the events leading up to the arrival were better explained. The encounter with flywaymen made little sense at first given that I had no idea what they were and the other characters hadn’t been especially well detailed at this early point. The explanation provided during the attack just didn’t […]
