N is for Not

Not Too Sweet by Jessica Seinfeld

August 24, 2025 by CoffeeShopReader Leave a Comment

Bingo 9: N is for Not (‘N’ Square) Not Too Sweet is a little bit of a misnomer. Just because the dessert recipes avoid sometimes white sugar does not mean they are low sugar or low sweet. Maple syrup seems to be the general swap, and that’s not exactly low sugar or unprocessed. Dates might be more natural, but those are really sweet. White sugar is still present in some things too. The options for “[something]-free” (gluten, grain mostly) and vegan optional don’t really seem […]

Unicorn Found: A Genuinely Good Dairy-free, Gluten-free Baking Book

Craveworthy Baking: Delicious Dairy-Free and Gluten-Free Cakes, Cookies, Breads, and More by Danielle Cochran

September 9, 2024 by Emmalita 2 Comments

Danielle Cochran’s Craveworthy Baking is a unicorn, magical and rare. Finding good, easy recipes that are gluten free or dairy free is harder than you think, and finding both, *throws hands up in despair.* I have not only preordered this book, I have ordered a copy for a friend. Now I will confess that I’ve taken my attempts at some of the recipes a step further, I made some of them sugar free too. On Sundays I bake for family dinner, and family includes 3 people […]

The Real Food Dietitians: the Real Food Table: 100 Easy & Delicious Mostly Gluten-Free, Grain-Free, and Dairy-Free Recipes for Every Day: a Cookbook by Jessica Beacom and Stacie Hassing

August 1, 2023 by carmelpie Leave a Comment

CBR15 Bingo: Guide square I found this book because I have been trying to eat more whole foods and be more mindful of the carbs and unhealthy fats I’m ingesting. I discontinued my subscription to the New York Times, which was my go-to resource for recipes. Now, I’m relying on a combination of googling as well as revisiting some of my old favorites. One of the challenges I’ve encountered when looking for lighter versions of traditional favorites is to find recipes that don’t require a […]

It Costs A Lot to Eat this Sweet

Bakerita by Rachel Connors

April 2, 2023 by CoffeeShopReader 2 Comments

This year for my birthday I decided to bake myself something in part because my freezer is still full from the sourdough baking times of about two months ago and I usually go for a small ice cream cake. I was assisted by a library find I may now have to purchase: Bakerita (of the blog of same name). The general premise is supposed healthier baked treats in that mostly natural less processed ingredients are featured, as are quite a few gluten-free and vegan options. […]
