The River of Silver: A nice reward for finishing a wonderful series

The River of Silver: Tales from the Daevabad Trilogy by Shannon Chakraborty

May 31, 2026 by beereadsbooks Leave a Comment

After taking a brief rest from tearing through Empire of Gold, I took a much more gentle pace through River of Silver. River of Silver is a series of short stories from multiple character points of view that stretches across the whole scope of the original trilogy. The stories are arranged chronologically from decades before we start City of Brass through to just after the ending of Empire of Gold. There are a few stories from the trilogy’s main protagonists, but mostly the stories are […]

The Daevabad Trilogy: “Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Revenge. Giants. Monsters. Chases. Escapes. True love. Miracles.”

The City of Brass by Shannon Chakraborty

The Empire of Gold by Shannon Chakraborty

It has been a while since I’ve made such dubious choices regarding reading hours as I did to read this trilogy. I read City of Brass at a decent pace and finished it in about 6 days. Kingdom of Copper lined up with a weekend so I ignored pretty much all of my responsibilities to finish in 2 days. While Empire of Gold technically took 8 days, I read the last 250 pages in about 7 hours – staying up until 2:30 AM to finish. […]

This book pulls the rug out from under your feet, but not necessarily in the best way

The City of Brass by S. A. Chakraborty

HMMM this book, this book. I had SO very many thoughts after reading it, and I definitely should have just pounded this out immediately after reading it because now I am onto book the next and already some of my biting insights have started to flutter away. I would say that for large portions of the the middle of this book, I was pretty certain that I wasn’t going to read on and would instead force one of my friends who had finished the series […]

A fitting end to a wonderful trilogy

Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty

December 31, 2020 by Aquillia 1 Comment

Empire of Gold featured in my ‘Best Books of the Year’ blurb, so why haven’t I written a review yet? I’m not quite sure, but I do know that it’s not the malaise that sometimes comes with ‘average’ books. I have loved each entry in the Daevabad trilogy more than the next, and Empire of Gold was that gold standard (no pun intended)–a conclusion that manages to surprise and yet feel inevitable and right, one that hits a perfect thematic ending note. Chakraborty has built up […]
