This Barely Qualifies as a Romance

Twice in a Blue Moon by Christina Lauren

June 3, 2019 by Emmalita 11 Comments

Since joining NetGalley a few months ago, I have requested 3 Christina Lauren books and finally approved for Twice in a Blue Moon, due October 22. Their publisher may never approve me again, because I did not like this book. Tate Jones, secret daughter of a famous actor, goes to London with her grandmother as a high school graduation present. While there she meets 21 year old Sam Brandis, who is travelling with his grandfather, for some reason. Tate and Sam fall in love, have sex, […]

Dating You/Hating You by Christina Lauren

May 23, 2019 by faintingviolet 2 Comments

This is a case of its me, not the book. I see all the positive things in this book that have made it so well reviewed here at Cannonball Read but I still just can’t get myself to settle in and enjoy it. After nearly a month off and on I’ve given myself permission to walk away for now. I might come back to it at some point – I really do like the characters and plot framework the authors are working with – but […]

Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren

April 11, 2019 by scootsa1000 3 Comments

I always keep a running list on my phone of authors and book titles that other Cannonballers have loved, just in case I find myself at a library or a book sale and have some free time on my hands. I recently picked up two books by Christina Lauren, My Favorite Half-Night Stand, and Josh and Hazel’s Guide to Not Dating. I enjoyed both – they were cute and fun and enjoyable. So I figured this book would be more of the same. But. Ugh. […]

“But how can I send my heart to him when he’s just said, in no uncertain terms, that he doesn’t speak its language?”

Autoboyography by Christina Lauren

I started a new job on the 28th and it is changing the trajectory of my Cannonba11 Read already. Lunch is an incredibly social time unlike my old gig where lunch was always guaranteed 45 minutes of reading time. I also stare at a computer screen for most of the day, unlike before, so I keep delaying writing my reviews. But I love you guys and have missed this little community so I’m trying to get back into the swing of things! I have been […]

I’m a Teacher In a Movie (or “I’m a college professor in a contemporary romance”)

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

January 24, 2019 by Jenny S 2 Comments

This was one of the books I received for Jolabokaflod this year from my sister, and it was just the type of novel that I needed to escape to last weekend—an interesting group of friends, an academic setting, and a rather silly plot involving an online dating site. Millie Morris is a professor of criminology, specializing in female serial killers, at UC-Santa Barbara; she has a tightknit but eccentric group of male friends, all academics in different departments and all single.  Reid and Ed are […]

Goes Down Easy

My Favorite Half-Night Stand by Christina Lauren

January 20, 2019 by yesknopemaybe 8 Comments

3.5 stars. This was a solid, super fun read. Light and fluffy, easy to get through so it was a great palate cleanser after having a book hangover from The Heart’s Invisible Furies. Millie and her friend group were the perfect cure. Millie and her group of guy friends all work at UC Santa Barbara as professors/researchers and they’re all single. When a fancy university event looms on the horizon, they make a pact to all get dates for it by joining an online dating […]
