A Serpentine Mystery

April 26, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

The fourth book in the series jumps into action fairly quickly, with the deaths of eight young women at Magdalene House, a Quaker refuge for prostitutes wishing to reform.  A subsequent fire burns the place to the ground in order to disguise the murders, but it’s clear to Hero Jarvis that things aren’t what they seem.  Hero is a young woman who has made brief appearances in the previous books – she is the daughter of Lord Jarvis, a man who has been a fierce […]

A Regency Serial Killer

April 24, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

This is the third outing for Sebastian St. Cyr, Viscount Devlin, and it’s quite a bit more gruesome than the last two.  Someone is murdering and mutilating young men, leaving their bodies to be found at dawn with strange objects in their mouths.  Sir Henry Lovejoy, Chief Magistrate, has asked Devlin to help out with the case since Devlin’s keen intellect and attention to detail served well on two other occasions to solve the crime.  At first, Devlin is hesitant to get involved – he […]

Dead in the Regent’s Arms

April 20, 2017 by Mikki Blu Leave a Comment

What happens when your god dies? Sebastian wondered. When someone is your sun and moon and stars, and then you discover something, something that reveals a hitherto unknown weakness so fundamental, so shattering that it destroys not only your trust in the other person, but your respect, too. The second book in the St. Cyr series begins with a beautiful young wife of a marquess found partially dressed…and dead in the arms of the Prince Regent during a party at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton.  […]

The Seedier Side of Regency London

April 19, 2017 by Mikki Blu 4 Comments

This is the first book in the historical mystery series set in the time period of great unrest in Britain. King George III has gone mad and his son is about to be proclaimed Prince Regent, hence the Regency Period.  As the book opens, Ms Harris sets a mysterious tone with a description of murky yellow fog on the streets of London, wrapping around a  young woman’s lantern in wraithlike drifts as she heads toward an old church for a rendezvous. Who is she meeting…the answer is unclear […]

Whodunnit? I forgot already.

November 27, 2015 by Rachie3879 Leave a Comment

It’s really hard to recall a book’s plot after you’ve read several others since, so forgive me for the brevity here. C.S. Harris’ When Gods Die is the second in the Sebastian St. Cyr mystery series. In the previous installment our hero Sebastian was accused of murdering a former lover in a most gruesome way. The second outing for Sebastian also involves the brutal murder of woman, this time in the Prince’s own bedchambers. Sebastian must assist the crown in proving its innocence, because the […]

What Angels Fear

December 23, 2014 by Rachie3879 Leave a Comment

As stated in my last review, I’m so behind that I definitely won’t achieve Full Cannonball status. I also don’t think the following review will be that comprehensive since it’s been months since I read the book in question. What Angels Fear by C.S. Harris is the first in a series of mysteries starring Sebastian St. Cyr. My sister-in-law and I share a rabid interest in period dramas and mysteries and I saw this in her Goodreads news feed with high ratings, so I immediately […]
