Why wasn’t Rose on my cover?

December 31, 2014 by Robyn Robotron Leave a Comment

Seriously, mine just has the Doctor on it.  Do people really hate Rose that much that they had to make two covers?

Castaway Story for the Cosmos Age, LOVE

December 31, 2014 by HC 3 Comments

This is a story about an astronaut named Mark Watney who is accidentally left behind on Mars after his crew believes he is killed during the emergency evacuation of their base camp on Mars (I know I already said Mars, but omg Mars) in a freak windstorm. Our hero has to figure out how to survive with his available resources, ration his remaining supplies, and try to get back in contact with Earth, knowing that his food will run out before they can rescue him. The author, Andy Weir, […]

Come for the spaceship protagonist, stay for the emooootions.

December 31, 2014 by narfna Leave a Comment

Breq is smart. Breq is capable and knowledgable. Breq is thoughtful, empathetic. Breq yearns for social justice. Breq mourns for lost love. Breq loves to sing, but has a bit of a temper. Breq used to be a spaceship. Well, if we’re going to get technical, Breq was the artificial intelligence who inhabited the spaceship Justice of Toren, and also thousands of ancillary human bodies (whose previous inhabitants had, um, vacated the premises). Now she only inhabits one, and almost everyone she has ever known […]

A wonderfully entertaining graphic novel that reads like a strange and heady blend of Romeo & Juliet and Star Wars.

December 30, 2014 by Renton 1 Comment

Saga is an exciting, touching, and constantly amusing breath of fresh air that starts with a scatological birth scene and proceeds to expand exponentially from there, out into space and beyond, with a wink and a nod. Alana and Marko are two (literally) star-crossed lovers from rival warring races who have, against the odds, managed to fall in love and conceive a child. Now on the run from both governments and an array of talented and hostile bounty hunters, they must survive long enough to […]

Professional athlete of the future turns superhero

December 30, 2014 by teresaelectro 3 Comments

This is my last review of the year (and the day)! By some miracle of will power, I met my half-cannonball goal despite only starting reviews last month. Must do better next year, for realz. My final post is for Mara, a YA graphic novel set in the future where professional sports is an even bigger business. Sport competitions keep everyone distracted from the endless world war cycle of Earth. Mara is superstar volleyball player whose been training since she was 2 years old! Barely legal, she lives […]

Robot Love

December 30, 2014 by teresaelectro Leave a Comment

The Silver Metal Lover was a great introduction to Tanith Lee for me. This particular month, Vaginal Fantasy focused on a robot theme with authors questioning the power of love with an artificial being. This particular love story is about a young, naive rich girl named Jane. She lives a pretty sheltered life in a beautiful mansion in the sky with her mother. All her friends are jaded and mean, living quite the hedonistic lifestyle on their parents money. One day while walking with her gay friend Clovis, she comes across a […]

I think there is more visibility for stories with older and middle aged women. I’m here for it.
