“Jesus. He was talking to a cloak.”

In Which Margo Halifax Earns Her Shocking Reputation by Alexandra Vasti

July 29, 2024 by Nart Leave a Comment

Belligerent twin sisters who wreak havoc on the Ton for their amusement as their own form of protest against Society’s chokehold on women. Plot: Margo has carried the title of being one half of the Halifax Hellions for about 7 years now, since they were first introduced to society. Frankly, at this point it feels more like work than fun trying to keep thinking up new ways to outdo their previous shocking conduct. Just smoking a cheroot and tying cherry stems in knots won’t do […]

“You made a severed finger into a feckin’ snow globe.” “It was almost Christmas,” she says with a shrug. “It felt … festive.”

Dear Girls: Intimate Tales, Untold Secrets and Advice for Living Your Best Life by Ali Wong

July 24, 2024 by Malin Leave a Comment

Nowhere Books Bingo: About someone you want to learn more about I don’t think I’d heard of Ali Wong before her first Netflix special, Baby Cobra. I’ve now seen all her stand-up specials and also enjoyed Always Be My Maybe, a fun romantic comedy she wrote and starred in with Randall Park, and famously got Keanu Reeves to star as himself. I’ve heard very good things about Beef, but there’s just too much TV out there at the moment, and too little time (especially if […]

“…but the losses were as solid and dependable as the Earth itself.”

Commonwealth by Ann Patchett

July 16, 2024 by Sophia Leave a Comment

My book club chose Commonwealth (2016) by Ann Patchett ages ago, but it was a meeting I couldn’t make. So when I ran out of time, I skipped the book entirely. However, because I’ve enjoyed other books by Patchett, I decided to pick this one up as an Audiobook. I’ve enjoyed every book by Patchett that I’ve read, and Commonwealth is no exception. Although, this one is not quite at the top of my Patchett list, it is memorable. I appreciate Patchett’s realistically drawn characters and nuanced family drama. […]
