This book was completely fascinating. I know I say this a lot, but I really should have reviewed this book right after reading, because details don’t always stick around long enough for me to remember to write about them. This book in particular was chock full of so many interesting details I know it would be impossible for me to convey most of them even if I’d written this review ten seconds after finishing. And it’s been a month and a half. Randy O. Frost […]
For me, this book was just okay, which isn’t okay!!!
I don’t know, guys, this book just wasn’t for me. I don’t understand why the universe is doing this to me! It’s getting such good reviews, like glowing reviews, and really the sum total of my feelings can be described with a single syllable. (It’s “meh,” if you’re curious.) And it had such promise! Who doesn’t want to read about a mysterious fungus that makes people develop pretty black designs on their bodies that look like dragon scales, and then burst into flames? And a […]
Fleming Hid a Kissing Book in His Third Act
Hello Cannonball friends, did you miss me? It’s been nearly 4 weeks since my last review. Being gone so long as left me feeling a bit like this: I have been reading most of the time, but I’m working through two very dense books (Children of God by Mary Doria Russell and House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende) during a very busy time for me at work (Ah, summer camp season). So in order to get back on the reviewing bandwagon, I decided a […]
The truth behind the Sexy Tudors
Tudor history has pretty much always been my favourite era of any historical period ever. There’s just so much drama and intrigue and the personalities were so immense, be it Henry VIII or his two daughters, Mary I and Elizabeth I. Back in November, there was a big audiobook sale over at Audible, and I picked up a huge amount of books, this one included. It took me nearly three and a half months of on and off listening to get through this nearly 23 […]
I’d hang out with Bigfoot around a campfire. He seems like a cool dude.
This is a fun little novella/short story collection set in the Dresdenverse. Three linked short stories are included here, taking place at varying times throughout Harry’s history. “B is for Bigfoot” takes place after Fool Moon, “I Was a Teenage Bigfoot” occurs after Dead Beat, and “Bigfoot on Campus” is sandwiched between Turn Coat and Changes, so the Harry in this collection is the Harry from Before, still working as a wizard PI. All in all, I found this book to be a fun, light […]
I had so much fun listening to this. Sometimes you just need nerd fluff.
Martin Banks is a jackass. That’s all I kept thinking during the first half or so of this book. To be clear, my thinking the main character was a jackass in no way hindered my enjoyment of the story. In fact, I’m fairly certain the book encouraged that opinion. See, one day Martin is sitting at home being lazy, hacking websites just for the fun of it (he sees himself as a benevolent hacker, because he doesn’t cause any harm–he just likes doing it) when […]
