ModernLove's Reviews:

I Really Wanted To Like This (Part One)

January 5, 2015 by ModernLove Leave a Comment

I love Richelle Mead’s young adult works. I started reading Vampire Academy at it’s inception, following the story to Bloodlines. I knew she had written novels for adults, too, and had wanted to check them out. So I cracked it open and dove in.

A Very Dystopian Bachelor-meets-The Civil War

January 4, 2015 by ModernLove 3 Comments

A little free advice from me to you: never work a job with crazy hours. You’ll forever mess up your sleep cycles and end up battling insomnia for years. On the upside, that allows you to blow through three books over the course of two very bad nights at your parents house! The Selection is a series set sometime after World War 4 in a nation that’s the combination of Canada, the United States, and Latin America. They banded together to fight off China and […]

NPH Autobiography

It’s Gonna Be Legen–Wait For It

January 3, 2015 by ModernLove 2 Comments

I’ve gotten a couple books under my belt so far this year, but I wanted to start on a high note. I had really been looking forward to reading NPH’s autobiography and when I got it for Christmas, I dove right in. To put it shortly, it did not disappoint. I loved CYOA books in elementary and middle school. I was the kind of reader who would check out all possible options before picking one, always trying to get the best ending possible out of it. […]

This Seemed an Appropriate Christmas Day Review

December 25, 2014 by ModernLove Leave a Comment

I’ve read everything John Green and Maureen Johnson have ever written. I own their catalogues and evangelize their books. Yet, somehow, this one always slipped through the cracks. I meant to get around to it, really, but never managed to. One day last week, I needed some Christmas cheer and decided this was the way to go; I was ever so glad I did! I’m not too surprised I enjoyed the first two stories in this linked trilogy, and the third was also really well […]

Merry Bookmas to Me!

December 15, 2014 by ModernLove 4 Comments

It’s like somehow the Delivery Gods knew that I’d have to spend all day in a building where the floors were being waxed and sent a lovely surprise to cheer me up via teresaelectro!! I am so, so excited to dive into these! I’ve always wanted to check out some of Richelle Meade’s other books, so thank you! This really did make my day/week/month to get these two lovelies in the mail. You rock, teresaelectro! I now have my first couple CBR7 reads and reviews set. […]

Don’t Half-ass Two Things, Whole-Ass One Thing.

December 15, 2014 by ModernLove 3 Comments

Nick Offerman is one of those people I find practically perfect in every way. His sense of humor, his love of actually doing things, his relationship with his wife, his honesty…He’s just one of those people who seems like he’s a solid person and someone I would want to hang out with. This book didn’t lessen that feeling at all. I was lucky enough to see his American Ham tour last year, and the book follows pretty solidly along the same structure of the show […]
