Marcella's Reviews:

It might take 6 months but it’s worth it

The Overstory by Richard Powers

December 31, 2025 by Marcella Leave a Comment

The Overstory is, quite frankly, a very long book. Both in page length, and otherwise, it takes a long time to get through. It is also a heavy book, one that in the context of current day deforestation left me with a pit in my stomach. It’s also a book worth reading, no matter how long or how desolate it left me. The book starts off with little vignettes of all the characters, providing a backstory for each of them. Having not read the synopsis, […]

White Rabbit Candies get an automatic 4 stars from me

Messy Roots by Laura Gao

November 21, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

Initially this book intrigued me because of the art style. So I fall again to the temptation to judge a book by its cover. This, however, is more fair this time around, as in graphic novels the art is one of the most important aspects of the writing. The art style moves forward the story and every character in it, and good art can make even the worst plot compelling. This book is yet another memoir, in a long list of recent memoirs I have […]

A very cozy book

The Book of Doors by Gareth Brown

November 20, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

I got this book for my birthday purely because I do, often, judge books by their covers. The cover on this book was absolutely gorgeous. All of us have fallen victim to judging a book by its cover, I just didn’t expect it to work out so well in my favor this time. This book is about a young woman who works in a bookstore. She has befriended one of the regulars, who she talks to quite a bit. Until he dies in the bookstore, […]

Genuinely can’t sum this book up in very few words

Body's a Bad Monster by Rowan Perez

November 20, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

This book was written by my favourite (alive) poet. She talked about the writing and release of this book quite a bit, and I bought it as soon as I was able to. So I may be biased, but for good reason in my opinion. To start, I don’t know how to categorize or explain this book. I cannot tell you if it is fiction or not. I cannot tell whether it’s poetry, or simply writing. This book is beautiful in a horrible way, and […]

A somber book, it’s worth a read

Beautiful Boy by David Sheff

November 20, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

The way I decided to read this book was by going into my Kindle library, scrolling for a random amount of time, and then choosing the first book that came up. This was, I would say, a very random way to choose the next book I read, given the enormous list I have of books (that I own!) that I’ve been meaning to read for a very long time. Alas, those books wait still longer. I had not heard much of this book, if anything, […]

Another Wild Robot book!

The Wild Robot Protects by Peter Brown

November 19, 2024 by Marcella Leave a Comment

This book is from the Wild Robot series, by Peter Brown. This series, and this book in particular, is heartwarming and charming. This book could cheer you up after any kind of day. This also comes with the advent of the movie just released based on the first book, which I have not seen yet, but am excited to. Let’s just get right into it I suppose. So first, assuming you’ve read the other two books, there are quite a few similarities. It is equally […]
