I’ve been around off and on since the first year of CBR, and it and books have been a constant in my life through multiple moves and a major career change. I live with 3 cats, Dany, Jace and Jorah. Fantasy, specific types of sci-fi, historical fiction (especially mysteries) and romance tend to be my go to genres now a days. Stephen King type meets RomCom Queen

January 18, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Christmas was always Eva’s favorite time of year, but last year her grandmother died right before the holiday season, so as she faces her second holiday without family, Eva has to force herself to feel the same joy about the holidays that she always felt.  No more moping around or evenings spent on Netflix – this December she resolves to get out there and enjoy it all.  About a month before Christmas, Mitzie, an elderly client from the first novel, hires Eva to decorate her […]

Outdoorsy Love in NYC

January 17, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Set a few months after Sleepless in Manhattan, Urban Genie is thriving as a growing business with all three of the co-owners being very busy.  Unfortunately, it is also wedding season, and while Frankie is a genius with flowers, she is cynic when it comes to love, and more than happy to jump at an opportunity to help long time friend Matt build and design a roof top garden when he finds himself short handed. Matt, Paige’s older brother, has known Frankie for years, and […]

I don’t think I’m supposed to be siding with the guy in this one …

January 17, 2018 by Jen K Leave a Comment

Since I started reading romance, I have mostly stuck to historical romance novels with a few exceptions, including The Hating Game and Lucy Parker’s London Celebrities novels which I quite enjoyed.  Despite that, I am still hesitant about contemporary romances but decided to try this one out based on Malin’s recent reviews. I think one reason I am more drawn towards historical romance is that it is easier to suspend disbelief when talking about dukes and earls looking for love (or actors in London) than […]

I want a daemon!

January 15, 2018 by Jen K 4 Comments

I loved His Dark Materials trilogy so I was very excited when I realized that Philip Pullman had a new novel out.  I was a little bit less sure if I necessarily wanted a new novel in the same universe but was definitely willing to give it a shot. As much as I love Harry Potter,  I would at this point prefer to get another murder mystery from J.K. Rowling than another tie in to Hogwarts and that universe.  As a result, I wasn’t sure […]

Family Drama and a Blue Demon Cat

January 12, 2018 by Jen K 2 Comments

Wildfire picks up right after White Hot, and sees Nevada grappling with how the events of the previous book will affect her and her family.  At this point there is no denying the fact that she is a Prime, and her lost grandmother is on her way to reclaim Nevada into her family.  White Hot ended with revealing Catalina’s abilities to readers, and with two Primes in the family, Nevada and her family can register as their own House which would provide a certain amount […]

I’m here for the cats, dogs and trained ferrets (there’s also romance and banter if that is your thing)

The novel picks up two months after the event of Burn for Me, and starts when Cornelius Harrison, a witness in the previous novel, comes to Nevada’s office to hire her to investigate his wife’s murder.  Despite her better judgement, Nevada takes on the case because she understands Cornelius’s motivations and desire to get an explanation of what happened to his wife as he and his young daughter face life without her.  Normally, the House that employs people would investigate their murder, but House Forsberg […]
