Who Should a Monster Marry? Another Monster
How do you rehabilitate a charismatic villain, whose behavior should have put him beyond redemption, to the point that a reader wants him to have a Happily Ever After? The writing couple that is Ilona Andrews set that task for themselves when they posted that they were starting a Hugh D’Ambray series as an April Fool’s prank. The response was overwhelmingly positive, which horrified me, but I guess it shouldn’t have surprised me.
James Stark, Proximate to Normal
It’s so hard to talk about the 10th book in a series without getting into spoilers. The Sandman Slim series is my very very favorite book series. Of all time. It is currently unfolding, but I truly do love it more than any series I have ever read or am currently reading. It’s difficult for me to talk about because I want everybody to read it, so I go into too much detail and then start reading whole chapters out loud. But I want you to have to experience I’ve had of not knowing what’s going to happen next.
This book made me feel like a bad person
I should have stopped reading Mariana Zapata a long time ago. All of her books have elements of internalized misogyny that make me uncomfortable. Her heroines tend to be “not like the other girls” and the other girls are “whores” or bitches. Rhythm, Chord & Malykhin adds in some gross gay panic and transphobia to the self hatred. And I read the whole thing. I feel like shit.
Just A Warning, Love – The Non-Fic Dukes Are Not Nearly As Fun
Our lovers, Portia and Tavish, get off to a bad start when a) Tavish forgets to pick Portia up from the train station, and b) Portia mistakes him for an attacker and maces him. This is one of my favorite ways to start a romance.
