Crystalclear can usually think of something clever to say, except when she can't. She has a giant stack of unread books at home but will always find an excuse to buy/acquire/borrow another one. (Learn more about this Cannonballer: crystalclear's Quick Questions interview.)

I am a lazy (thankful) bum!

All of the thanks to Beth Ellen for my lovely present!  (She took the hint that the book I wanted most was on the top of my list!)  Books, hot chocolate, and a lovely note, what could be better than that?  (I got this in the mail almost a week ago, and forgot to post it until now!)

Needs more kidnappings. Or plot in general.

I have no idea where this book even came from. I went out into my garage to get something, and it was sitting on a pile of books, and I thought, hey, why not?  I suppose I bought it at some point.  I hope it was at a garage/used book sale, because it certainly is not worth the price on the back!  (Who am I kidding, I probably had a coupon.  RIP, Borders.)   This started out as promising. Our main character, Lucia, is the […]

“M is for Magic. All the letters are, if you put them together properly.”

As I was wandering through my library looking for a new audiobook for my commute home, I decided to check out the YA section. I was looking for something easy and fun. We don’t have many audiobooks for that section (we’re trying to get kids to actually read!) but I was pleased to find this. A book by Neil Gaiman? Nice!  Read by Neil Gaiman? Sweet!  Is this meant for young children? No, I don’t think so. But older ones could get something out of […]

These are minutes of my life I will never get back

July 21, 2015 by crystalclear 4 Comments

I… just… bad. All of the bad. I can’t believe this drivel even got published. I think these may have started as plots for porn, and the director just laughed, said “It’s not what we’re looking for, why don’t you write a book?” while snickering, and the author went and did just that. It is not in any way a good imitation of Austen’s writing, it would not have fit in with any of the plots, and it’s not even good porn! It’s 2015, people, […]

Between the cantrips and the spells, I’d rather have the cantrips

July 8, 2015 by crystalclear 1 Comment

It’s good. A good solid story with a linear plot with a few side plotletts along the way. I read it straight through with just a pause for dinner, and maybe a pee break. In reading it so quickly, I most likely missed out on some of the tiny details. And I could barely pronounce any of the names, even in my head. Agnieszka (see?) begins our story as a 17-year-old girl who always seems to be a mess. She and her best friend Kasia […]

I was on board until the Squirrel People

June 11, 2015 by crystalclear 3 Comments

This was my second Christopher Moore adventure via audiobook (the first being Sacre Bleu), and for the most part I was pleased.  The things I loved about the other Moore book were all here – witty banter, random deep thoughts, gratuitous vulgarities.  But then again, there were parts that I was not in love with. Our main character is Charlie Asher, the Beta Male proprietor of Asher’s Second Hand, a second-hand shop in San Francisco.  But that is not his only job.  Shortly after the […]
