At first, I thought Bingo Square 26 cbr18bingo would be a hard one to find a book for. I then remembered that author Shannon Hale’s birthday is January 26 and I had read a book by them that is out and about. It was not the 26th online reader copy that I read, but I could pretend it was.
The Princess in Black and the Trick-or-Treating Trouble by Shannon Hale, Dean Hale and LeUyen Pham (illustrator) is a cute addition to the Princess In Black series. There are lots of treats and a few tricks. The village loves their Princess In Black (their Wonder Woman, their Super Girl, their mystery savior) so much that there are several kids who dress up like her for the Halloween excitement. But, though our real PIB loves handing out candy, she wants to do some Trick or Treating, too. And also wants to stop anything that would stop the fun.
The kids (and you) who are reading, will be more excited than if y’all ate all the candy at once as they wonder how the Princess will be able to save the day, or if there is anything that does need saving as there might be a few twists and turns that you did not expect to happen. The artwork is the usual simple, clever, gets the details in when needed and expressive as you’d expect from Pham. Those signature round and fun images are right there, ready to guide you through the story. They both give a little of the story and support the main text. They work as well as peanut butter and chocolate candy.
