This book has no right to be as good as it is. If Sex Wizards: Initiation introduced all of the rules of magic and forced Dominai to accept his power, Mastery shows his progression as he decides to improve his skills and learn how to slow down and let things come on their own.
At the end of book 1, Olbric, Dominai’s closest friend and lover, was captured and tortured by two rogue wizards. Olbric and the other members of the crux were rescued, but now they are dealing with the very real trauma of their subjugation and sexual assault by their captors. Dominai can’t fix it and he struggles to know how best to support Olbric in the aftermath. Olbric knows that healing is not linear and allows his friends to take care of him.
Meanwhile, Dominai undertakes a week of becoming the sub in a BDSM experiment with Arlon, the leader of the crux. In order to obtain his mastery in several disciplines, Dominai accepts the offer to learn to be a submissive in order to strengthen his spells.
The whole story is very sexy and extremely tender and fluffy. There is very little action happening in this book. It is all about Dominai learning who he is as well as understanding what he can and cannot control, especially when it comes to the non-linear healing process of his closest friends.
Book three continues with the pursuit of the assailants.
CW for mention of off-page sexual assault. On page description of the trauma and suffering in the aftermath of said sexual assault.
