Recently the “You are that author???” realization has come into play for my reading adventures. You see the Kaz Windness of the Bitsy Bat Series is the same Kaz Windness of If UR Stabby, which is if Edward Gorey was on some serious “good stuff” if you get my meaning. Whereas Bitsy Bat is in a book called Bitsy Bat, Snow Star. And look at that cover! That little berry nose! The eyebrows. (EYEBROWS on a BAT!!) Those mittens on their feet! The sparkle in the scarf! They are really really and I mean really not a goth/punk/apocalyptic stabby unicorn! 
The stories of Bitsy are all nice stories, with nice illustrations, and are just nice overall. They might not WOW me, but they are a cozy book that I will come back to. I will share this book with others. It makes me happy. And this time we learn that it is okay to be different; it is okay to not like the same things as your friends; and that it is okay to say, “No thank you I do not like hot chocolate.” (Though, honestly that one does surprise me.) Also, we see how different people communicate their needs as several of the Bitsy Bat characters are neurodivergent. One uses signs, one uses a tablet, and Bitsy themselves have many sensation issues. However, they are not really “separate” or “other,” they just are. They do what they do and it is not a big deal.
Now, before you say “But hey! Bats do not go about in the snow!” don’t worry, that is explained, too. Just enjoy the fun, colorful, and sweet images that give life to the adventures one little bat has in the big snowfall. There are other books by Windness out there, so if one is not your cup of hot chocolate, maybe one of the others are. Or one illustratred by them is your style.
