I don’t know how this ended up being worse than the first book in the Lo Blacklock series, but it definitely was. Ruth Ware has mostly missed books for me, but I was curious how she would follow up to The Woman in Cabin #10. I wish I had just told myself to stop being nosy and picked another book. All in all, none of this makes sense except Lo has to be the most naive and just flat out Too Stupid to Live (TSTL) character I have seen in some time. And I read Holly people. Most of this story only works if Lo does things that no one with an ounce of sense would do. And it didn’t help that we get a huge heaping of Mary Sue since every man within a 10 mile radius seems to be obsessed with Lo. Though Lo really loves her husband. Again. I got nothing.
The Woman in Suite 11 follows Lo, now happily married in New York with two little boys. She’s not written anything in about 10 years and made the events of her life aboard the Aurora into a book. When Lo gets an opportunity to visit and write about a luxury hotel in Switzerland, her husband pushes her to go. Things quickly start off weird with Lo being provided free upgrades she assumes her husband paid for (and man that right there was the beginning of let’s not tell my husband about some basic stuff cause the story would have been wrapped up quickly) and then arrives at the hotel. Once there though, Lo is wondering if something darker is going on. She reunites with some of the men she met aboard the Aurora and wonders if the powerful man behind the hotel is behind it. And then a late night call has Lo face to face with someone asking for her help.
Most of this book is so dry/not very good because it’s mostly Lo in rooms plotting and talking to someone. At one point, Ware tries to interject a bit of Agatha Christie with us getting to see times written down about someone entering/exiting rooms but since I knew who had done it I was just over Lo being slow on the uptake. I think at one point even Lo’s husband was like are you for real about this? There’s no development of anyone in this story. It just plods along to we get to it’s absurd ending.
