Title: Plus-Sized Misadventures in Love!, Volume 1
Author: Mamakari
Illustrator: Mamakari
Annotation from Publisher:
“All Yumeko ever saw were her flaws. Her unhappy outlook infected not just her, but everyone around her, too. It’s only after a car accident that leaves Yumeko with amnesia that she wakes up with a brand-new lease on life, one that attracts all kinds of adventures and maybe even love.”–
My Comments:
So, at first I really did not like this book. There were a lot of bumps in the flow of things. The characters were not likeable, the theme of “fat chick” with witchy parents over done. Then I started to get into it more. Then the layers came about and things started to change for me. Things were a little smoother, until they were no longer smooth. It was a roller coaster ride. A lot gets put into a few hundred pages. The manga illustrations were not something I personally cared for, but of course they work as who the author is.
Yumeko is not really a nice person. She’s not a horrible person, but since you do not know what she was like in the past, it is hard to judge her now. But she can be downright naive, to maybe a smidgen (frankly) stupid. The people around her are the stereotypes (hot office gal, horny male coworkers, jealous boss, hot mysterious stranger) you’d expect in a comic romance. Sure things are interesting at times, such as Yumeko might have tried to take her life, or it might also have been murder. The love of her life turns out to have more secrets than I have books (that’s a lot) and maybe her coworker is not as nice and helpful as she wants people to think. And then there are the police officers. I really don’t like the head guy.
In the end, things were not WOW or great or even that was a good read. However, they are intriguing and make me want to read more and learn what the heck is going on!
