Fangs by Sarah Andersen chronicles a supernatural love story between Elsie the vampire and Jimmy the werewolf. The graphic novel is a series of comic vignettes with a loose linear progression of their relationship. They awkwardly meet and discover they both have “fangs” in common. This was both funny and sweet. They may be monsters, but they’re super relatable.

Eventually, they move in together and learn each other’s unique quirks. She can’t be in direct sunlight, a natural goth. He turns into a wolf when the moon is full, and tracks dirt into the apartment. Things they used to hide from others, they reveal to each other, and at times can now joke about them. I loved Elsie’s jokes about past lovers she probably murdered. Safest not to cheat on a vampire and make her jealous!

I was already a fan of Andersen’s illustration style after reading Cryptic Club. When I came across a free copy of Fangs, I couldn’t believe my luck! Their love story was surprisingly quite sweet. I also laughed more than I expected. I would have liked it to be a tad longer, but that’s because I had so much fun with these characters. This was essentially a collection of moments from how they met, some dates, moving in together, and then funny scenes of why they fell in love. I read it quickly in one sitting. If you’re a web comic fan, like silly jokes about dating, and enjoy paranormal romances with vampires or werewolves, you’ll probably enjoy this book.
