Consort of Fire was an insta-buy because I love the author duo Kit Rocha to pieces! Their new duology kicks off with Sachielle on her way to become the said consort of a mysterious dragon lord. He is a powerful man named Ash who can literally become a dragon. This immortal dude is pretty scary, but Sachi isn’t afraid. She has been dreaming of fire and determined to seduce him… The twist is she is on a lifelong path to assassinate him lest she will die herself. Zanya her dark handmaiden is also a secret assassin in on the plan. Zanya is ready to murder this lord in cold blood since she’s pledged her life and love to Sachi who if full of goodness and light. These women were raised together by nobles with only one mission. Unfortunately, the dragon and his band of other powerful magic lords aren’t the bad guys. They’re the only ones who want to save this land from the dumb human kingdoms who wanna destroy it. Typical humans!
I don’t want to give too much away, but Sachi and Zanya meet Ash and sexy sparks fly. He wants them both and is determined to earn their trust and love. As tradition dictates, the dragon travels the lands to present his consort to the world. During their journey, they have a ton of sex! But also fall in love despite all this death and doom looming over this trio. This is a duology, so it doesn’t end specifically on a cliffhanger, but the end revelations left me curious about what it all means. Queen of Dreams is sitting on my shelf waiting for me like a present to read in 2025.
The lore is still coming together, but I’m forgiving for a first in a series. I was driven by the lure of romance and wanted to know more about the backstory of all the characters. The magic lords and how they interact were a highlight. I’m intrigued by how they all obtained their immortal status and how they uniquely protect their kingdoms. If you like spicy romance with fantasy elements, run, go, now, and read this. We get a fantastical journey full of perils and a steamy M/F/F romance.
